Farmer Wants A Wife (FWAW) is back for its 16th season, with the first episode of the new instalment hitting screens this evening and promptly sending fans into a thirst-fuelled frenzy.
That’s right, in between all the introductions of the newest batch of romantic hopefuls, the return of host Natalie Gruzlewski, and the kind of rolling farmyard hills that feel purpose-made for frolicking, all anyone could talk about was just how hot this year’s selection of farmers are.
As Natalie said during the premiere episode, “these are our hottest farmers ever”, and she certainly didn’t lie.
We already knew a bit about the farmers when the FWAW season 16 cast was announced in May, but seeing them on the big screen was a whole different story for legions of — did I mention it earlier? — extremely thirsty fans.
Farmers Dylan, Alex, Jarrad, Jason and Zac certainly made their mark on audiences with their TV debuts in the premiere, but before we get to the fanfare, let’s have a brief recap of what went down in the first episode of FWAW season 16, shall we?
The “hottest farmers ever”
After a quick scene of the five farmers meeting each other, the episode got straight into introducing them to the ladies and viewers, with a quick note from Natalie that they were the “hottest farmers ever”.
Dylan (with a swoon-worthy smile!) was the first to face the women, followed by Jarrad, Jason, Zac and Alex. We got a glimpse into each of the farmers’ back stories, including which farms they belong to, what type of #farmlife they live (there’s a cowboy and mushroom farmer this year!), and what brought them into the whirlwind world of dating on reality TV.
Naturally, the back stories prompted some emotional reactions from the 40 women vying for a farmer’s heart this season.
Speaking of which, some of those lucky ladies got coveted one-on-one time with the farmers via the episode’s inaugural round of speed dating, which gave us a look at some of the sparks already flying among the castmates.
Contestant Ally and Farmer Dylan’s speed date went particularly well, but I also felt major chemistry between Suzannah and Farmer Alex. We’ll have to wait and see whether any of these sparks become an inferno as the season unfurls, but in the meantime, let’s get back to that insatiable fan thirst.
Farmer Wants A Wife fans lose it over this year’s batch of “handsome” farmers
Beyond the more heartfelt beats of the speed dates, the much louder throughline from the ladies and viewers was the farmers’ good looks.
Many fans took to social media to revel in the eye candy, with some describing the farmers as “handsome”, “stunning” and “strapping”, and others asking, “how TF are they single?”.
Others celebrated the farmers even though they are “not into blokes that way”, so I hope the ladies lock them down before the general public gets a hold of them! A bunch of other fans shared their regret in not apply for this season given the charm of the five farmers, and honestly, I feel the same.
A bunch of other memorable moments punctuated the FWAW premiere — like one contestant admitting she doesn’t like mushrooms (gasp!) and another revealing she didn’t want children — but with so much left to learn about the cast in the upcoming season, fans were (for now) just taking everything at face value.
And boy, what pretty faces they were!
Farmer Wants A Wife season 16 will air weekly on Monday nights on Channel 7 and 7Plus.
