Everyone was making the same Irish joke after First Dates Ireland episode on RTE last night

First Dates Ireland gave television viewers a bit of respite from the doom and gloom at the moment with some typically entertaining viewing.

A handful of hopefuls headed into the Clayton Hotel at a time when coronavirus wasn't even a thing as they searched for love.

One couple really caught the eye of viewers on the show on Thursday night and not because of how they looked, but instead how they spoke - or one of them at least.

Ailbhe, from Donegal, introduced herself 'as Gaeilge' at the start of the program which immediately caught everyone's attention.

And plenty of people joked that she was merely showing off her Irish now that the oral exams were cancelled.

One viewer Baz Brock said: "When the Irish orals been cancelled and you go to the sitting room to show your Mam how you got 100%."

Aid O'Connor added: "Let’s hope Ailbhe doesn’t get a date who sat the 2020 Irish Orals."

Unfortunately for Ailbhe she wasn't given a date with fluent Irish as Paul was limited in his knowledge of the native tongue, although it didn't seem to bother her as they got on great on the show.

One viewer joked: "The Irish oral exam has been cancelled....you're off the hook Joe."

As well as joking about the Irish orals, a lot of people were simply praising Ailbhe for her impressive level of the language.

One user said: "There's such a difference in someone who grows up speaking Irish naturally and fluidly. Sounds amazing. To the forced sounding Irish were used to hearing on TV."
