Everyone saying same thing about RTE's new drama Harry Wild starring Jane Seymour and Amy Huberman

Jane Seymour and Amy Huberman have received rave reviews for their new TV series Harry Wild.

The new series, set in Dublin and co-written by Irish writer Jo Spain and Dave Logan, kicked off on RTE One on Wednesday night, with Bond legend Seymour in the leading role alongside Irish star Huberman as her daughter in law.

And RTE figures obtained by Irish Daily Mirror reveal over 200,000 people tuned in to watch the new pairing on screen.

An RTE spokesperson said: “Harry Wild got 215,000 and 23% share on RTÉ One and 19,000 and 4% on RTE One plus one.”

Elsewhere viewers were keen to let their thoughts be known, with many taking to social media after the show aired.

Journalist Philip Nolan said: “I’m not sure why @RTEOne tucked #HarryWild away on Wednesday nights when it has Sunday at 9.30 written all over it. Its light, untaxing, end-of-the-weekend fare.”

Another agreed: “Thought it was very good , light comedy very much non taxing a sort of Murder she wrote with a few zingers and a lead character who is part of the “actively elderly generation”.

“Ok really liked #harrywild,” a third wrote.

Praising Huberman for her role, someone else wrote: “@amyhuberman loving Harry Wild. Twitter is a cesspool so figured credit where credit is due. Hats off m'lady.”

Another added: “Loving #HarryWild @RTEOne looking forward to the next episode and what a find in #RohanNedd !!

Seymour, who also executively produced the eight-episode series also received praise.

One fan wrote: “I just watched #HarryWild on RTE1 Jane Seymour was very good. Amy Huberman also starred & as usual she was great. Good story line complete in one episode

“Looking forward to next episode but the first one was great”

Others were less impressed, with writer and broadcaster Barbara Scully saying: “Em. So far the best thing about #harrywild is that it features lots of #DunLaoghaire. And Jane Seymour’s teeth.”

Another hesitant viewer added: “#harrywild I watched it.. not sure about it yet! @JaneSeymourTV is still looking amazing though!”

The new series follows Seymour as retired literature professor Harriet “Harry” Wild, who becomes the victim of a mugging and starts a series of events that lead Harry to a whole new life.

Wednesday’s opener kicked off with ‘When Harry Met Fergus’, where Harry goes to stay with her son, Charlie, a senior police detective.

When she realises Charlie’s latest investigation bears striking similarities to an obscure Elizabethan play and her offer of help is rudely rejected, Harry decides she will find the killer herself to prove she was right.

When her path crosses that of her mugger, Fergus Reid, rather than turning him in, Harry employs him as her sidekick and together they catch a killer.

Speaking before the show went to air this week, Amy shared her excitement saying: “We filmed this last year, I’m only in it a squidge; we filmed it when my sproglet was only a teeny, little sproglet but I LOVED working with these gorgeous people.

“What utter craic and a joyous escape from COVID lockdowns.”

Meanwhile, Seymour gushed over her bond with the Dubliner and her hubby Brian O’Driscoll.

“Amy and Brian became my best friends, and I was part of their family. I hung out, played with the kids, helped with the cooking. Amy really took me under her wing, and I feel like she’s a younger version of me,” she told Sunday Independant’s Life Magazine.
