I can't lie, I'm a sucker for a good gaming collab, and the latest one in Overwatch 2 with Persona 5 got me thinking.
I love when different IPs come together in a place you may not expect in a game. When I was a kid, my favorite crossover was Kingdom Hearts. I loved Final Fantasy, and I grew up loving Disney movies, so combining the two created absolute magic. And the desire to collab between IPs has only gotten more and more common over time.

The biggest and most successful example is probably Fortnite, which has dozens and dozens of IP collabs under its belt. It's got everything from movie characters to anime heroes to supervillains, and everything in between, and they just keep coming every single season.
Fighting games specifically seem to have crossovers on lockdown, as well. Just think of titles like Super Smash Bros., the last of which had a stunning amount of cameos and collaborations like Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII, Kazuya from Tekken, Banjo & Kazooie, Steve from Minecraft, and others from across various franchises.
Mortal Kombat is similar, especially with recent releases. The bloody fighter has had cameos from God of War's Kratos, Homelander from The Boys, Omni-Man from Invincible, and several horror icons like Freddy Krueger, Leatherface, Jason Voorhees, Ash Williams, Ghostface, and many more.
When I think of crossovers, my brain immediately shifts to Marvel vs. Capcom. The classic fighting series kicked off in the 90s by combining Capcom's video game icons with Marvel's heroes, beginning in earnest way back in 1996 with X-Men vs. Street Fighter.
Looking to the future, Destiny 2's upcoming Renegades expansion is basically a massive Star Wars crossover, complete with lightsabers and AT-AT-like walkers for the Cabal enemy. There is no end in sight to collabs such as these, and I'm honestly okay with it.

And so now, as ever, I pose the question to you, dear reader: what's your favorite gaming collab ever? Let us know in the poll and comments below, and especially let us know if you hate collabs and wish projects would stay true to their own material.
