Prince Harry may have just taken a major step towards his much desired reconciliation with his father, King Charles. Reports indicate that the Prince’s top aides met with the King’s top aides for a “secret meeting” in which the two sides discussed how they could begin mending the broken relationship.
Sources told the Mail on Sunday that a meeting between the two parties last week was the first step in a “rapprochement process” that would hopefully see the father and son begin to bridge the rift between them.
What we know about the meeting between Harry and Charles’ aides
The meeting apparently took place in a London Private members club that “champions international friendship.” Much of what was discussed is currently not public knowledge and it’s possible that it won’t ever be. It’s also unknown who first extended the olive branch between Harry and Charles to initiate the meeting.
Harry was represented by his chief communications officer, Meredith Maines. Maines was also the interviewer who organized the BBC interview in May which saw Harry make some very controversial public statements about his father, she was accompanied by the Sussexes UK PR manager, Liam Maguire. As for the king’s side, he was represented by communications secretary Tobyn Andreae. According to the source, “There was no formal agenda, just casual drinks. There were things both sides wanted to talk about.”
The three were photographed talking and having drinks on the club’s outdoor terrace before they moved inside.
What does this mean for the future?
What we do know is that there is “a channel of communication is now open” between the two sides now. If you’ve been following along with this royal feud then you would know that this is a major development considering the fact that Harry has publicly stated on numerous occasions that his father and brother were no longer speaking to him and that he couldn’t even get them to answer the phone.
Despite Harry’s previous hurtful comments it seems that the king is still open to a reunion with his youngest son. After more than five years of deteriorating relationships the source claims that both sides are finally ready to move forward.
“[This is the] first step towards reconciliation between Harry and his father, but at least it is a step in the right direction… Everyone just wants to move on and move forward now. It was finally the right time for the two sides to talk.”
As long as both sides are willing there’s no reason why a reunion shouldn’t be on the cards. The mini peace summit has finally broken the ice and now it’s up to Harry and Charles to start moving forward. This comes during a period where it looks as though the Prince is becoming increasingly dissatisfied with his life in the U.S.
Reports suggest that Harry has been contemplating a return to royal life in some capacity, even if that doesn’t involve his wife Meghan. He also extended an invitation to the royals to attend the Invictus Games which will be taking place in Birmingham in 2027. The Prince is certainly making a concerted effort to win back his family.
