Well, the story of Brandon Johnson is a difficult one to tell, but we’re here to break down the basics for you. All of this will make your social media sleuthing a little bit easier. Because, once you hear about Don’t Date Brandon, you will probably run to actually watch the documentary.
Paramount+ debuted the docuseries this week. Don’t Date Brandon focuses on Brandon Johnson. He was basically with two different women at once, and that kind of double-life drama always draws some eyeballs. It’s tragic and also the kind of “true crime” adjacent viewing that a lot of viewers absolutely cannot get enough of. Is it salacious, quite a bit actually? But, does it scratch an itch for a tremendous number of people? You know it.
What is Don’t Date Brandon about?
The premise of this podcast is directly inspired by the Ex-Wives Undercover podcast. Two of Brandon Johnson’s ex-wives, Athena Klingerman and Amber Rasmussen are the hosts of that show. In 2020, they got the idea to warn other women about the man they both married. But, once they became aware of each other, there were other secrets to come bubbling up to the surface. For example, there are at least four other alleged women who have reported issues with Johnson.
These ladies fought super hard to reveal their husband’s controlling behavior and deception. The Washington native does not come off in the best light during Don’t Date Brandon. But, there’s no way he was really going to be portrayed positively, considering the allegations in the docuseries and the contents of the episodes. Each entry brings so much new detail to process, usually along with your own group chat.
As a matte of fact, Johnson would plead guilty to assault and attempted kidnapping with intent to rape in 2023. (This all comes from a Sacramento Bee report. I highly recommend their account as it paints the picture of a man who is obsessed with maintaining his image along with the violence he’s accused of.) So, the story had largely been confined to the podcast audience before the release of Don’t Date Brandon.
