'Everyone in this country' - Pep Guardiola takes dig at Liverpool after Man City win

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has claimed that ‘everyone supports Liverpool’ as the title race begins to near its conclusion.

The Reds are still battling to win the Premier League crown, but were dealt a blow with this weekend’s results. Liverpool were held to a 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur, while Man City ran out 5-0 winners over Newcastle United.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are now three points behind Man City with three matches left to play. Next up for Liverpool is an away trip to Aston Villa in midweek, while City travel to Wolves.

Speaking after City’s win over Newcastle, Guardiola was asked about his side now having an advantage in the title race. The Spaniard responded by making a couple of interesting claims about Liverpool.

"Everyone in this country supports Liverpool, the media and everyone,” Guardiola told beIN Sports.

“Of course, Liverpool has an incredible history behind it with European competitions. Not in the Premier League...[they’ve] won one in 30 years, but it’s no a problem at all.

“The situation is what it is, we have to do nine points or maybe six right now, it depends on what happens in the next two games in terms of goal difference.

“Now Wednesday is a real, real, real, real final for us, and we are going to try and go there [Wolves] to win.

“Our destiny is in our own hands, this is important and we have to look at ourselves. Whether it’s one point or three, nothing changes. We have to do it.”
