‘Everyone Gets Nervous When Women Do It’: Lindsay Lohan Shares BTS Tea On Freakier Friday

Given that Lindsay Lohan has been gracing our screens since the ’90s, it’s safe to say your girl is something of a film legend. So much so that she often insists on doing her own stunts, despite filmmakers being nervous when it comes to women taking risks.

During her trip to Australia to promote Freakier Friday, the long-awaited follow-up to the beloved OG, Lindsay opened up about bringing her physical comedy chops to the role once again.

In anticipation of the sequel, PEDESTRIAN.TV caught up with the Hollywood icon and her equally iconic co-star Jamie Lee Curtis for the low down on what goes into the franchise’s most memorable physical comedy bits — from *that* iconic bed-pulling scene to Lindsay’s slapstick flirting with Chad Michael Murray (who can blame her?).

“When you’re in those moments, you kind of have to just go for it,” Lindsay said of her exaggerated movements while inhabiting the mind of her teenage daughter, Julia Butters’ Harper.

“We have a good trust with [director] Nisha Ganatra, and we had that kind of trust and say in what you feel is right.”

While she was given free reign to be as slapsticky as she liked (resulting in hilarious moments where Lindsay adopts Gen Z mannerisms), she said this isn’t always the case for actresses in the comedy genre.

“Maybe they’re afraid to let you do [physical comedy],” she told us.

“Because in physical comedy, everyone gets nervous when women do it, especially.

“They’re like ‘oh my God, we need a stuntman.’ I’m like can we just calm down, can you just trust me,” Lindsay said.

For her part, Jamie said she was able to take somewhat of a backseat in terms of the physical comedy, but was still able to observe Lindsay’s antics from afar.

“I was given a birds-eye view,” Jamie said. “But it was funny to watch her do it, really funny to watch her do it.”

Elsewhere in the interview, the pair discussed another aspect of the sequel that was played for gags — the contrasting fashion choices between three generations of women.

While Jamie can’t help but turn looks — serving a red jumpsuit that outshone the literal Opera House behind her — she joked that she’s far from a fashionista.

“Please don’t make me talk about fashion,” Jamie laughed.

“[Costuming] obviously was not my job. Luckily there are very talented designers who do that work.”

Being so distant from the fashion space meant Jamie “couldn’t believe that anyone thought [her costumes] were cute” — so don’t go asking her for any reviews on your latest OOTD

“I know nothing and have no style,” Jamie said.

Through all the gags, however, its Lindsay and Jamie’s chemistry that shines through, even after all these years away from their characters.

“Because we’ve been friends for so long we can bring that and use that for our characters,” Lindsay said.

Freakier Friday pulls off the rare feat of reaching the already enormous heights of the classic original, with plenty of physical skits, dubious fashion choices, and of course, the sheer star of two legends.

Freakier Friday hits cinemas on August 7.
