Everybody loves Virgil van Dijk but Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain faces new Liverpool question

Liverpool's run in the FA Cup continues as they overcame a tough Nottingham Forest side at the City Ground after Diogo Jota scored the only goal of the game in the second half.

The Reds' pursuit of more silverware continued thanks to Jota's goal and now Liverpool will take on Premier League title rivals Manchester City at Wembley in the FA Cup semi-finals - a week after the two come to blows at the Etihad in a huge league encounter.

Virgil van Dijk was selected alongside regulars Alisson Becker, Fabinho and Jota as Roberto Firmino was given a chance to remind fans what he could do from the start of the match.

YOUR SHOUT: Rate Liverpool's players after the 1-0 win against Nottingham Forest

Our ECHO readers were each given the chance to rate the Liverpool players after the win over Nottingham Forest and, unsurprisingly, Van Dijk was rated highest with 7.2 out of 10. Oxlade-Chamberlain and Elliott were each given a rating of five as both found it difficult at the City Ground.

Ian Doyle was on ECHO player ratings duty at the City Ground and he selected three players as his highest rated during Liverpool's FA Cup quarter-finals win as Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez were all given a rating of eight.

Gomez was given a chance to start at right-back as Trent Alexander-Arnold missed out with a hamstring injury and the 24-year-old shined in the domestic competition.

It was a tough evening for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who was given the chance to perform in his favoured midfield role, but he failed to do so and was hooked in the second half - much to his displeasure. The question of where more minutes will come from for him now lingers as the vital run-in approaches.

What everyone else said

Of course, other ratings are available. And the national media were largely unanimous in their verdict.

iNews rated goal scorer Jota as their highest-rated player in the win over Nottingham after giving the Portuguese star a rating of eight. Gomez, Van Dijk, Tsimikas and Fabinho were all given a seven for their fine performances against the Championship side.

Jota and Tsimikas were both given a rating of eight by 90min for their part in the goal while Harvey Elliott was given just a five as the youngster struggled to fill in for the absent Mohamed Salah out in the right forward position.

The National News gave Gomez, Van Dijk, Tsimikas, Naby Keita and Jota a rating of seven out of 10 while they also suggested that Elliott and Oxlade-Chamberlain struggled.
