Everybody loves Liverpool's Sadio Mane but this seems harsh on Dejan Lovren

Liverpool, Liverpool, still top of the league. And still six points clear of champions Manchester City.

Only just, though, as it required another late show to see off Aston Villa in another Premier League thriller at Villa Park on Saturday afternoon.

Andy Robertson and Sadio Mane grabbed goals late on to earn a 2-1 triumph and move the Reds on to 31 points from a possible 33.

Yours truly was on ratings duty once again and considered Trent Alexander-Arnold best of a topsy-turvy performance from the Reds, scoring him 8.

Mane, Robertson and Dejan Lovren were all next with 7, while at the other end of the scale Gini Wijnaldum and Mohamed Salah only scored 6.

Liverpool fans voting on the ECHO website couldn't choose between Mane, Alexander-Arnold or Robertson.

All three scored an average of 8.1, the only players to register higher than 7.

Wijnaldum, meanwhile, was lowest with 5.7. Tough afternoon for the Dutchman, that.

What everyone else said

Of course, other ratings are available. And the national media thought some Liverpool performances were completely hopeless.

The Mirror gave Mane top marks with 8 but scored Lovren, Van Dijk, Henderson, Lallana and Salah 5 and Wijnaldum just 4.

The Mail do things by halves and were a bit more impressed with Liverpool, Mane highest with 8.5 ahead of Alexander-Arnold and Robertson on 8.

The Daily Star really don't like Lovren and Henderson. They both scored a frankly silly 3 while Lallana and Salah scored 4. Mane, Robertson and Alexander-Arnold were best with 7.

The Express put Mane, Firmino and Alexander-Arnold top on 7 while Wijnaldum, Salah and Henderson only scored 4.

Meanwhile, The Times regarded Alexander-Arnold the most impressive with an 8 while Mane and Robertson scored 7.

Finally, the number-crunchers at WhoScored.com calculated Alexander-Arnold was best with 8.25. Salah was lowest of the starters with 6.05.
