Everybody loves Liverpool's Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino but has Fabinho been treated harshly?

Liverpool, Liverpool, still top of the league. And by five points now.

An impressive 3-1 victory over Newcastle United, and Manchester City's subsequent 3-2 shock reverse at Norwich City, has seen Jurgen Klopp's side extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table with a 100% record after five games.

A long way to go, of course. But there were some encouraging signs at Anfield on Saturday.

Yours truly was on ratings duty and couldn't choose between Roberto Firmino and Andy Robertson, who both notched 9. Sadio Mane and Fabinho were both given 8.

But Liverpool fans voting on the ECHO website regarded Firmino as clearly the best with a whopping average of 9.2.

Not bad for a substitute.

Mane, Robertson and Fabinho again completed the top four, while of the starters Divock Origi was unlucky to pick up an injury just when he was coming into the game.

What everyone else said

Of course, other ratings are available. And the national media were pretty much in agreement over who to praise.

The Mirror had Mane and Firmino leading the way with 8 as several players notched 7.

Player Ratings: Liverpool 3 - Newcastle 1

The Mail do things by halves and considered Mane best with 8, ahead of Firmino on 7.5.

The Daily Star had Mane top on 9 with Firmino and Robertson scoring 8.

The Independent were among those who believed Mane and Firmino were a cut above, handing the duo 8.

Meanwhile, The Times had Mane best with 9, while Van Dijk, Firmino and Robertson all registered 8.

Finally, the number-crunchers at WhoScored.com calculated Mane was best on 8.51. Surprisingly, though, of the outfield players who featured for the full 90 minutes, Fabinho was computed lowest on 6.58.
