Everybody loves Liverpool's Mohamed Salah but Virgil van Dijk isn't appreciated

It was the proverbial game of two halves for Liverpool on Saturday.

Fortunately, though, football tradition dictates nobody ever leaves the stadium contemplating what went on in the opening 45 minutes.

Goals from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jordan Henderson and a Mohamed Salah brace in the second stanza earned the Reds a 4-0 win over Southampton at Anfield.

The victory moves the European and world champions on to 42 league games unbeaten and strengthened their grip at the top of the Premier League table.

Yours truly was on ratings duty for the ECHO once again and was impressed with three players in particular.

Henderson and Salah were joined by Roberto Firmino in gaining the top score of 9.

Alisson Becker scored 8, but first-half difficulties were highlighted by a gaggle of 6s.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez, Andy Robertson, Fabinho and Gini Wijnaldum all had the same lowest score.

To be fair, Gomez was a 4 at half-time, but his second half was a lot better.

What everyone else said

Of course, other ratings are available. And the national media were pretty impressed with Liverpool.

The Mirror gave Van Dijk, Henderson, Salah and Firmino all 9. At the other end, Wijnaldum scored 6.

The Mail do things by halves and gave Firmino 9 ahead of a clutch of players on 8.

The Daily Star ranked Henderson, Firmino and Salah top with 8, while Gomez and surprisingly Van Dijk notched only 6.

The Evening Standard couldn't see past Salah, giving him 9 while Henderson, Firmino and Alisson scored 8.

Meanwhile, The Times considered Henderson best on 9 with Van Dijk, Alexander-Arnold, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Firmino and Salah on 8.

Finally, the number-crunchers at WhoScored.com calculated Salah was best on 9.50 ahead of Henderson on 8.93.
