Everybody loves Liverpool's Gini Wijnaldum - but someone has a problem with Joel Matip

Liverpool simply won't give up on their Premier League title dream.

A hard-earned 2-0 win at Cardiff City on Sunday moved them back to the top of the table, once again two points ahead of Manchester City.

Gini Wijnaldum struck a brilliant opener before James Milner's late penalty sealed the points after Mohamed Salah had been fouled.

Yours truly was on ratings duty for the ECHO once again and was impressed by another professional performance from the Reds.

Virgil van Dijk sounds Manchester United message and reveals Liverpool target

Wijnaldum earned the top mark of 8 alongside Jordan Henderson and Joel Matip.

Most of their team-mates scored 7, although full-backs Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson had tougher afternoons, scoring 6.

What everyone else said

Of course, other ratings are available. And the national media were largely in agreement over who impressed for Liverpool.

The Mirror thought Wijnaldum was best on 8 ahead of a clutch on players with 7. Matip was among those only to score 6.

The Mail do things by halves and considered Salah top on 8 ahead of Mane with 7.5.

The Express ranked Matip and Wijnaldum best on 8 but Alexander-Arnold registered a mere 5.

The Independent didn't think any Liverpool player deserved an 8 with a host scoring 7.

Meanwhile, The Times took the view Wijnaldum and Matip impressed most with 8.

Finally, the number-crunchers at WhoScored.com calculated Wijnaldum was best on 8.43 ahead of Van Dijk on 8.04.
