Everybody loves Liverpool's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain - but has Fabinho been misunderstood?

A win, but nothing more. Such was the case for Liverpool in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

A 2-1 triumph over Genk moved the Reds to the top of Group E, with victory over Napoli at home later this month enough to secure qualification to the knockout stages with a game to spare.

However, that was more or less it, minds very much distracted by the visit of Manchester City on Sunday.

Yours truly was on ratings duty for the ECHO and found it particularly easy to rank the players.

Basically, everybody got 7, with the exception of the two goalscorers - Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain earning 8 while Gini Wijnaldum scored 6.

What everyone else said

Of course, other ratings are available. And the national media were a bit all over the place regarding who should receive praise.

The Mirror decided eight players were worthy of a top mark of 7. Only Alisson, Gomez and Fabinho scored 6.

Blood Red: Liverpool player ratings vs Genk

The Mail do things by halves and put Oxlade-Chamberlain top on 8 ahead of Wijnaldum and Salah on 7.5.

The Daily Star placed Alexander-Arnold and Oxlade-Chamberlain top on 8 but Fabinho scored just 5.

The Express ranked Van Dijk best on 8. Wijnaldum, Keita, Milner and Alisson mustered a miserly 5.

The Independent regarded Wijnaldum, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Salah best on 8.

Meanwhile, The Times had Oxlade-Chamberlain, Alisson and Alexander-Arnold leading the way with 7.

Finally, the number-crunchers at WhoScored.com calculated Oxlade-Chamberlain was top on 8.12 with Salah next on 7.69. Fabinho was the lowest of the starters on 6.80. Maybe the critics were right after all.
