Everybody in the house agrees to DJ set at Perth nightclub

American tech house DJ Green Velvet is set to perform at Perth’s Ice Factory next month.

The nightclub has been granted special permission from Perth and Kinross Council’s (PKC) licensing board to have its licensing hours extended until 4am on Sunday, September 8 for the special one-off event.

The iconic star with his green Mohican will be hotfooting it from his gig in Edinburgh on the Saturday night to make his way up the road to perform in Perth to perform a 90-minute set at 2am.

Police Scotland had no objection to the application and said it was for the licensing board to decide if the event was of such significance that it deemed an extension of licensing hours.

After thorough discussion, the board unanimously decided it was.

Depute provost, Lib Dem councillor Willie Wilson, who sits on PKC’s licensing board, said: “If you want to be a small successful European city, this is the sort of event you attract.”

Agent Ian Lindsay told the board the nightclub anticipated a lot of people coming from out-of-town with busloads coming in to see the star, who is currently performing in Washington DC and New York this weekend.

Mr Lindsay said they expect a crowd of about 800-1000.

The board was satisfied with the club’s operational plans for hosting the event.

Cllr Wilson said: “Hopefully people will stay over and enjoy the rest of Perth.”

Convener, Conservative councillor Kathleen Baird, motioned for the extension to be granted, saying: “Sometimes we are accused of not listening to what people want.

“I hope it’s a great success.”

Conservative councillor Ian James congratulated the Ice Factory on attracting such a big star saying it was quite a “coup”.

Craig Fraser from Centreglobal Ltd, which operates the nightclub, said he hoped to build on this and attract more big acts to his Perth venue.
