Good team performance wasn’t it tonight?
It was a graft. Coming to the Bridge was a tough game. Getting that goal was obviously something to hold onto. They threw everything at us but we stayed strong and got the clean sheet and the win.
Nervy few minutes at the end when they hit the bar twice?
Yeah, Zouma’s out-jumped me and I’ve just seen him in the air and thought ‘I can’t reach that’ and then Leno’s pulled off a good save, tipped it onto the crossbar and then Oli [Giroud] has brought it back onto the crossbar and then we managed to clear it. A little bit of the rub of the green for us, which is nice for a change. We got the job done.
What did you like about the formation?
It just made us match them man for man. We knew that going into it it was going to be one v one duels, and if we beat our man in our position then we got a chance. I think that’s what we did.
Does it frustrate you that you don’t follow up these results at other points in the season?
Yeah, it’s having that bit of luck and we’ve had a few offsides in the last couple of games that have been really tight and just not gone our way. When we get it with the offside for them, we get away with it when they score. It’s six of one, half a dozen of the other so we’ll just take it and it’s nice to get a double over Chelsea for the season.
That’s got to be the target for next season hasn’t it?
Yeah, obviously we’ve still got to see where we’ll end up with the European places. If we don’t get Europe then it gives us a chance to focus fully on the league. Hopefully we can have a good season there and climb back into Europe.
What did the manager say in the dressing room?
He was really pleased with our attitude and effort. I think a bit of stuff came out in the media earlier today and yesterday, he said some of it is not true and is out of context. We knew it wasn’t his opinions and we showed that tonight with how we backed him and did what he asked.
