Every word Patrick Vieira said on Watford win, Roy Hodgson, Marc Guehi injury and more

Happy with the win?

Yes, I am really pleased with the win today and the number of points that we have. Of course, we want to perform well to try to win football matches. There are three games left and we will play those three games as best we can because we want to build for next season and it is important we finish well.

How is Marc Guehi?

It is his ankle. We have to wait until tomorrow or Monday to find out how bad it is.

Was it a difficult game?

I think we were always in control but it was a difficult game because we didn’t move the ball quick enough to find those players between the lines and create chances. We made it really difficult for ourselves but in the end, we managed to win the game. It wasn't our best performance but we showed a lot of maturity with how we managed and controlled the game.

Difficult to play a side who were about to be relegated?

Before the game, they were not relegated and we knew how tough it would be because of their organisation. We wanted to move the ball quickly but we didn't move the ball quick enough to create those chances.

Do you feel for Roy Hodgson?

It is always difficult for a manager to get relegated but I think it was a really difficult task when he arrived in the middle of the season. I think when you are looking at the career he has had as a manager, he is an example for a lot of coaches.

Clean sheets in four consecutive home games, first time in top-flight since 1992. What have you done to keep goals out at home?

From the start of the season, we knew that we needed to improve our defensive game and we’ve been working on that and players have been working hard and that allowed us to be more solid. At the same time, our front players are working hard rout of possession which gives us more solidity This is good and it’s what is important for us - to be demanding and keep that going until next season. We have improved but we still want to improve as there are details we can do better.

Always want more in attack, how do you change it?

Keep assisting, keep practising in training and trying to put the best team on to create those chances. I think today we didn’t play especially well in the last third and when we have possession we need to be more dangerous and create chances.

Have the team shown a different side to you of late?

It’s about having the right balance and trying to win football matches. When we are in a good period, we should create chances and score goals. When we are suffering, we should be more solid. There is a better understanding of what we want to do and how we want to play the game. There are moments we need to be more clinical or accept the dominance of the opposition and defend. And we’ve accepted it better. Sometimes without the ball, we’re frustrated but now there’s a better acceptance. We roll our sleeves up and are fighting which is good.
