Every word of Andy Gray's stinging criticism of Marco Silva and Everton after dismal Liverpool defeat

Everton legend Andy Gray has delivered stinging criticism of the situation at Everton after tonight's dismal defeat to Liverpool.

The at Anfield to heap even more pressure onto manager Marco Silva.

And in his role as a pundit for beIN SPORTS, Gray gave a passionate but damning assessment on his former club after the match.

Host Richard Keys asked him if there was a "crisis" at Everton.

Gray said: "Is it a bigger word than that? It must be. I think it's bigger than that.

"I'm not one for asking for people to lose their job, but the statistics are damning.

"Only one team has lost more games in the Premier League than Everton this season.

"Only two teams have scored fewer goals than Everton this season.

"Only three teams have conceded more goals than Everton this season.

"And Everton now languish in the relegation zone. With my Evertonian hat on, I have to say that I think [Silva's] position is untenable.

"I really do. And people can say 'they were spirited against Leicester'. They lost the game. End of.

What Marco Silva said in his press conference after Liverpool defeat

"Liverpool were in second gear, second half. They were controlling the game. They were 4-2 up and cruising.

"When you drop in the bottom three and you are Everton manager - and you have played 15 games - then something is drastically wrong."

Gray did not attribute sole blame to Silva for the Blues' plight. But he indicated that the buck stops with the manager.

He added: "I think recruitment has been really poor at Everton over the last three or four years. I don't think you can lay that at [Silva's] door.

"But he's the manager. He's the coach. He's the one who sets the standards, picks the teams, sets the tactics out on a daily basis.

"Had Everton still been 15th even, 14th, and showing signs of improvement, I would still be saying give him a chance. It's not easy just to get a new coach in and lift the whole place up.

"But we are in the bottom three now. It's unacceptable. It really is unacceptable.

"They have spent fortunes at that club and they are in the bottom three."
