A Lyndon Dykes penalty and an effort from Ilias Chair in added time condemned Nottingham Forest to an opening day 2-0 defeat.
The Reds were toppled at QPR in their first Championship game of the new season, on an afternoon when they were left to rue a number of missed chances.
Tobias Figueiredo’s error conceded the spot-kick early in the second half, while Lewis Grabban spurned a host of good chances, and Ryan Yates hit the bar for the visitors.
Here’s what head coach Sabri Lamouchi had to say afterwards.
What are your thoughts on the result and performance?
“We have to get better - with the ball and without the ball.
“Last year, our first quality was to defend, to be aggressive and compact, all together.
“The first mistake we made, we conceded.
“We need to be more focused and more consistent.
“And we need to be more efficient in both boxes, because we didn’t give them too much - but enough to lose the game.
“And we created a lot, but we didn’t score.
“It was a bad result and we are disappointed, of course. But we have to work on it.”
On another day Lewis Grabban could have had a hat-trick, couldn’t he?
“Lewis Grabban could have had a few goals. But we know him, when he is 100 percent, he will score.
“He is probably one of the best in front of goal.
“He is not ready. He missed two clear chances - and with Lewis we know he can easily score those kind of goals.
“We need to be more pragmatic and not give anything away defensively, because we gave them the three points.”
Do you feel it was a bit out of character for Tobias Figueiredo to make a mistake like that?
“He was solid. But in one situation you can make a mistake, and we made a mistake - unfortunately.
“We conceded at the wrong moment for us in the game.
“We gave them the three points.
“Usually, QPR play much better and with more quality, but it is the first game. It is tough for all of us.
“But we gave them the three points.”
You opted for Jordan Gabriel at right-back, does that show your confidence in him?
“It was just because the characteristic of the opponent was strong and quick, like Jordan.
“It was for tactical reasons.
“After you have lost the game, you can be disappointed about the performance and have some questions about your line-up.
“We need to think about that.”
There was no Yuri Ribeiro, was that down to injury?
“Probably it was the wrong choice. After the result, then you are always right or not with the line-up.
“We didn’t lose the game because of those single details. But we lost and we need to know why and how.
“After the penalty we started to play in a different way and created more.
“We can’t wait to concede to play - and we can’t concede an easy goal like that.”
How important is next weekend’s game?
“We have to work. From next week, we need to react and play more pragmatic.
“We need to try to read the game in the right way. If it is a good day, we will score. But if it is the wrong day, you need to be focused and not give anything to the opponent.”
