Every word Marcelo Bielsa just said on Spurs defeat, defensive injuries and Illan Meslier

Leeds United began 2021 with another London defeat, as they went down 3-0 to Jose Mourinho's Tottenham Hotspur.

The hosts took the lead from the penalty spot via Harry Kane on 29 minutes, before the England skipper turned provider for Son Heung-ming two minutes before the break.

Toby Alderweireld headed in a third from a corner to seal the win as Leeds struggled to test Hugo Lloris in the Spurs goal.

Here is every question and answer in full from the Whites head coach's post-match press conference.

Can you give us your thoughts on your team's performance today please?

The first 30 minutes of the first half was positive. The final 15 minutes of the first half were slightly more even and the first 15 minutes of the second half were our most difficult moment when they were better than us. And then in the second half of the second half we started to dominate again.

We had a good offensive production. For our opponents to create only a few more chances from us, they came about through errors that we could have avoided. We lost some balls when we were building up from the back. We weren't winning the second balls on the set-pieces. We also suffered a goal from a set-piece. In the game we created ten chances, we didn't score any goals and our opponent created 12 and scored three. For me the fundamental difference was of course the efficiency, and the fact their offensive game came about through errors that we could have avoided.

I think the capacity for our forwards to unbalance their defence was sufficient and the capacity to defend from our defender I thought also was good. We had possibilities to unbalance in attack. We showed we can defend against some top forwards.

The situations that came about from us that made it very difficult to defend in our own half, this is where we must polish our performance. This game is comparable to the ones we had against Chelsea and Man United. In that sense we have improved. Today, we were in conditions to have a closer game, so that the margins weren't so big.

We didn't manage it because we suffer on some occasions where we were making mistakes that can be avoided. We have gone through similar problems like those faced today. It's not for a lack of experience or the need for a longer adaptation period to the league because we are in conditions to take better decision than those we took. So that the result of the game is similar to what unfolded throughout.

Can you give us an update on the fitness of Diego Llorente and Liam Cooper please?

They are both recovering.

Do you feel in these games against slightly strong opponents in the Premier League that Ezgjan Alioski has got the defensive capabilities to match them, to match the qualities of these forwards?

Yes, of course. The situations that Alioski may have suffered are not linked to the resources that he has. He has all the necessary resources to neutralise the capabilities of the opponents. So the situations that he faces are a very big disadvantage, like for any player it would be difficult for him to resolve.

And for that I feel responsible because there are situations in the game when we make it difficult for him to defend, due to our oganisation. Any defender when they have to defend at a disadvantage, I'm referring to the moment when an opponents forward has the ball at their feet and they have time to run with it or losses with the ball that require an adaptation that is very difficult or when he has to return when we are attacking and the ball is lost unexpectedly, these are situations where it makes it more difficult for the defender and have to do with the organisation of the game and that is where Alioski is less responsible and I am more responsible.

Tyler Roberts was missing from the bench today, does he have an injury or another reason why he is absent?

He is unavailable at the moment.

You've said that your players should be ready and that lack of experience is not an excuse. Is there anything you can do when our goalkeeper makes those mistakes? As a manager is there anything you can change or adapt?

What we have to look at is how the goalkeeper performs in all the fixtures, not in just one game. The question that you're asking is about an undeniable error. But if you look back at all our games you will see how efficient Illan is with his feet.

And if compare with the efficiency of other goalkeepers, making a relationship between completed passes and errors because if the goalkeeper receives the ball and just kicks it long into the opponents' half he cannot make an error. So I think the question you ask comes with an error in your conclusion.
