Jose Mourinho has tasted defeat on the opening day as a manager in the Premier League for the first time after Spurs lost out against Everton this afternoon.
It was a disappointing afternoon for Spurs as Dominic Calvert-Lewin's second half header sealed all three points for Everton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, leaving Mourinho's men frustrated as they started the new campaign with defeat.
And Mourinho was not in a good mood as he spoke to BBC Radio 5 Live after the game.
Here's every word he said in a spiky interview with BBC reporter Rob Nothman, who spoke to his straight after interviewing Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti.
Jose Mourinho, it must be very different emotions for you after that?
“I lost the first game of the season, it is a new experience but I have to cope with it."
They were quite impressive weren’t they [Everton], were they better than you thought they were going to be?
“Did you see the first half? Or only the second half?”
No, I saw the whole game and I thought that they were quite impressive?
“That’s why Hugo Lloris made two amazing saves in the first half? He didn’t touch the ball."
But they [Everton] had a lot of possession?
“What is that?"
Well, possession of the ball, they looked very comfortable with the ball?
“Goals, goals, goals, and shots. We were poor, we were not good enough, but I think you are false with your analysis, I am sorry to say that.
“[Jordan] Pickford made two saves in the first half, Hugo [Lloris] didn’t touch the ball.
“In the second half, of course they scored the goal and after that we were poor in creation, we were not aggressive enough in attack,we were tired and lots of people were not sharp, our intensity and sharpness and creativity.
“After the goal, they were the best team, in the first half, you say about the possession, and I stay with two amazing situations we created, and two great saves."
A lot of people listening will be surprised to hear you say that the players were tired, can you just explain why? Is it difficult to get back into the swing of the season again, bearing in mind the close season was not long?
“Look, there are players without pre-season, as simple as that.
“How many times has Harry Kane trained with the team? Once. Just to give an example, and I could give you more."
So you will get better?
“Of course.”
OK, thank you very much for your time.
