Arsenal defender David Luiz insisted he wants to stay at Arsenal but admits he should have made a different decision about his future.
The Brazilian endured a car-crash performance against Manchester City, allowing Raheem Sterling to open the scoring before hauling down Riyad Mahrez for a penalty and getting sent off in the process.
In a surprising turn of events, Luiz voluntarily asked to speak to Sky Sports after the match, where he explained his stance on his future.
football.london understands that while the option of a one-year deal has now expired, talks have taken place around him extending for a year but on a lower wage.
Here's every word from that revealing interview.
David, you asked to speak to us, what is it you wanted to say?
"It's simple. It's not the teams' fault, it's my fault, I take the decision to play and I should take another different decision in the last two months. The team I thought did really well, especially with the ten men. The coach is amazing, all the players did amazing, it's just my fault.
"I should take another different decision in the last two months, I didn't, it was all about my contract. I have now 14 days to be here. That's it, so today it was my fault.
What decision should you have made?
"A different decision to try and decide on my future as early as possible but I didn't."
Did it affect how you played?
"I don't want to use it as an excuse, it's my fault and that's it."
Is your future at Arsenal?
"I'd love to be here, that's why I continue to work hard, that's why I came here today. That's why I tried to do everything, that's what I am here showing my face.
"That's why I'm able to tell all the players, nobody forced me to speak, I am able to show my face and be here. I want to stay. The coach knows the coach wants me to stay so we are just waiting on the decision."
