Every word Frank Lampard just said on Chelsea's loss to Valencia, Mount injury and Barkley miss

Should have got more out of the game tonight?

“Yeah, without a doubt. Probably a win, at least a draw. I think we created enough in the game, not lots of fantastic chances, but good chances. Obviously a penalty and we conceded from the one shot on target, so harsh lesson in Champions League football. A game we played pretty well in, and we lose it. Good news is we have five games left in the group, we should have got more tonight.”

Ross Barkley, why did he take the penalty?

“Ross is the penalty taker, was in pre-season and scored a couple. Has been when he started, was when he came on today and he missed it. That is the clear story.”

Jorginho and Willian wanted the penalty, what did they say to him?

“I don’t know what the conversation was, but Jorginho and Willian were the takers on the pitch, when Ross comes on he becomes the penalty taker, and he missed it.”

How is Mason Mount’s injury?

“He has got an ankle injury, we don’t know how bad it is, we are going to have to assess it in the next 24-48 hours to see the scale of the injury. To see how it is. It’s too soon to say, obviously it was a shame because he was playing so well and started well and we had to make the change early.”

Frank Lampard 'proud' to manage Chelsea in Champions League

Pulisic, is he in your plans after not coming on?

“He is in the plans, we have got the squad and the wingers to choose from, with Pedro’s experience in the Champions League it was a decision to make, but Christian is well in the plans.”

Tough group tougher now?

"Yeah, for sure. That’s the reality of losing a game at home, first game and makes those games (Lille and Ajax) more important, particularly as they come back to back away from home.

"There are league games in the meantime, but we need a strong focus on those games to try to get a result in one of those two games before we make it really, really tough for ourselves.

"In context, it’s still one game done and it’s still a group that I think teams will take points off each other because all the teams are strong and will fancy themselves.

"There is certainly no reason to be too down beat now, but we need to win games."

Some racist chanting against Jewish people and gypsies sung. Response to that?

“I didn’t hear them, but it’s the same message I’ve said quite a few times this season. Chelsea as a club, we have initiatives and we are
very clear where we stand on racist chants at this ground or any other
ground. I will reiterate that, clearly.”

Liverpool at the weekend?

"It’s a big game off the back of a good result for us at Wolves. This is a different competition. It wasn’t a bad performance. It was just a result we now have to turn around in the Champions League. It doesn’t change the fact we’re waiting for a very tough match, but the sort of game we’re here for. They’re playing so well at the minute. They’re the best team in the country on form, so it’s a great test for us and we need to be ready for it."

Surprised at their 2-0 defeat to Napoli?

"No. It’s Champions League. Of course Liverpool are the current holders and certainly one of the best teams in Europe. But anywhere in this Champions League you go is tough.

"I’ve been to Napoli and lost pretty heavily there a few years ago. It’s a tough stadium to go to. I’m not saying I expected them to lose but in this competition it’s difficult to win at those places. "
