Every word BT Sport pundits said about Jose Mourinho's Tottenham tactics vs Chelsea

BT Sports trio of pundits have taken aim Jose Mourinho for the way he sets his Tottenham team up.

Spurs once again lined up in a 5-4-1 formation against Chelsea on Saturday afternoon, with his side falling to a 2-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge.

Olivier Giroud put Frank Lampard’s men ahead before Marcos Alonso doubled his side’s lead in the second half, although Antonio Rudiger's late own-goal set up a nervy finish.

Jose Mourinho: Nobody in European football is in such a difficult situation

And although Spurs are without Son Heung-min and Harry Kane through injury, Rio Ferdinand, Peter Crouch and Eidur Gudjohnsen were quick to take aim at the Portuguese afterwards, and below is every word they said about his tactics.

Ferdinand: "I think the way he sets them up makes it harder for them to get a goal or be in the game.

"They are much further from the goal. This is from kick off here, the ball gets played back to the Chelsea centre-halves and they stand off.

"They give the initiative to Chelsea straight away. In a derby game you want to get against people and make it difficult.

"Don’t give people time on the ball. It is just so, so negative."

Crouch: "I have played in systems like this, but I'm talking for Stoke City against Manchester United.

"Or against a much better side. This is a Tottenham side full of talent. They have got the ability to break teams down, I don’t think they have to play this way.

"It is so negative. No ideas. Bergwijn is playing up there by himself, and similar to Dele Alli in midweek, became so frustrated.

"It is demoralising. You come off the pitch thinking you haven’t played."

Gudjohnsen: "Unfortunately I played for Iceland in a system like this and you come off the pitch feeling depressed."

Ferdinand: "You mention there, Iceland, always underdogs in most games. Stoke, underdogs in most games. Spurs can’t be seen as underdogs going into most games I have been watching.

"When you take risks and go forward you get a little bit of luck. But because they play so negatively it is so difficult.

"That interview just says that the attacking players, Moura, Bergwijn, Dembele, Lo Celso, he has inherited, is he saying they aren’t good enough?

"And that he needs to make wholesale changes in the next window.

"120 to 125 million pounds worth of talent which he is saying isn’t good enough for me to go on the front foot with and attack the game."
