You had to wait until April for a league clean sheet last season, you must be pleased to have one so early this
First of all I want to win. I want to score. Then I want to keep a clean sheet. Today we won and did that.
Today I think in our 90 minutes we played very seriously, very compact, controlling the game on the ball and creating chances. We need also to create chances for our striker.
Today with Auba we won.
How encouraging was it to see Calum Chambers stepping in and performing well?
Last year for Calum Chambers was a very good year. He played all the matches with Fulham, he played centre-back in a three and two, as a defensive midfielder.
In the pre-season he deserved to play today. He was very focused and with Sokratis as well very seriously. I want to have very competitive players in each position, with David Luiz, with [Rob] Holding when he is coming to help us, training regularly and playing minutes. He is going to play tomorrow for the Under-23s.
Also Hector Bellerin is coming back, I think one month more. Today we had Sead [Kolasinac] out and Kieran Tierney injured. We want to be strong defensively but above all being an offensive team.
Have you spoken to Sead Kolasinac and Mesut Ozil?
The club is managing that circumstance. We want to be with them as soon as possible, with normality in training and playing.
Will they be available next weekend?
I don't know now.
How pleased are you that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang started with a goal?
We want to start defending with Aubameyang and we want to start attacking with Bernd Leno. We need to create good combinations, good situations for creating chances.
After each player has his quality to score, to make decisive passes, to bring defensive balance, to break lines, to progress on the pitch with the ball. Aubameyang is our scorer with [Alex] Lacazette, [Nicolas] Pepe, Reiss Nelson, [Henrikh] Mkhitaryan, with other players.
Today I think every player worked well. Aubameyang scored but it was because every player worked well.
Could he have an even better season this time?
Yes. Our idea is to continue being one team who are mostly offensive. We need to take defensive balance. Next week is going to be another challenge for us to get a clean sheet but first to win and also create a big spirit like a team.
To win away and at home is difficult each match. Today we struggled but deserved it. We're happy but calmed down for Saturday.
What was the reason behind not starting your new signings?
The circumstances are different. First David Luiz had a pre-season with another team and is ok to play physically but only trained with us completely yesterday. On Friday he only trained for 30 minutes.
I was thinking of giving Sokratis and Chambers confidence because they were working well.
Pepe is different. He is now in pre-season. He came one week ago, physically he needs to get the best paces, to get fit, to be ready to play 100 per cent for 90 minutes. Today 20 minutes is good for him.
[Dani] Ceballos is in the middle. He came before Pepe and he had an injury and stopped training. He needs also to know the Premier League. The first match for him is important for us. That's the reason.
I used Reiss Nelson and [Joe] Willock because they deserved to play. With confidence they can help us. [Gabriel] Martinelli the same.
What did you make of Willock and Nelson?
They were good. They are young. They need to get confidence, to get experience. But we need to win.
We are helping them by pushing them, our demand is very big. They need to do one process, sometimes it's playing, sometimes starting on the bench.
Above all, they are going to be with us.
