Every word Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta just said on Bernd Leno, Matteo Guendouzi and Neal Maupay

How difficult was that defeat to take?

Obviously after a defeat we want to improve the next result straight away. We did a lot of things to win the game constantly but we haven't competed.

You have to compete in the Premier League. We gave the first goal away and we lost a few important duels afterwards, so I think it’s all our fault.

Do you have concerns about your team's character?

Not about their character, it's about how you compete in a Premier League match. It's for 100 minutes in this case. It's every ball, every action.

The moment you lose attention the opponent is going to punish you. It's not the first time it happened. If you want to win football games consistently at this level that's a must, it's something that's non-negotiable.

David Luiz: Is his reputation as error-prone unfair?

Why didn't your players compete?

I think they competed for large parts of the game but in crucial moments where you don't you pay the price. That's it.

It's all my fault because I'm the one who has to make sure they do.

Was Neal Maupay at fault for Bernd Leno's injury?

I believe that no player has the intention to hurt anybody and I believe exactly the same in this case. It was unfortunate.

Bernd's injury doesn't look good, we will have to assess him tomorrow. It can happen in football matches.

What exactly does Leno's injury appear to be?

It's a knee injury. I think he had a hyperextension of the knee. We have to assess the damage.

Do you fear Leno's injury is a cruciate injury?

We don't know. He was in a lot of pain. He's still in some pain. We will have to wait to tomorrow to see how bad the damage is.

Matteo Guendouzi appeared to strike Maupay - what was your view on that?

I don't know, I haven't seen the action. I've seen a lot of players just talking and getting together but I don't know what happened.

Can you understand why your players were angry with Maupay?

Yeah but it's the frustration because we threw the game away and probably that's a reaction that can happen. But I always believe a player has no intention to get somebody else injured.

Maupay said Arsenal players need to show more humility

He can say whatever he wants. I know my players. One aspect we don't lack for sure is humility.

Did Leno's injury have an effect on the performance?

I don't think that's the case because a lot of things happened afterwards. We scored the goal and had more than enough opportunities to put the game to bed.

We cannot use that as an excuse.

Are you facing an uphill battle to raise spirits?

Absolutely. When you lose two games in a row the hardest thing is to lift the players up and believe again in what we're doing. The context of the last game against City and this one is completely different and I'm more upset today because I know the accident that happened against City but the accident today was provoked by us and it's unacceptable.
