Every song has a story, says lyricist-turned RJ Sameer Anjaan

Songwriter Sameer Anjaan has written over 5000 songs in Bollywood and entered the Guinness World Records for writing lyrics for maximum films. However, he says every song has a story behind it and listeners often don’t realise that.

“Which song doesn’t have a story behind it? People listen to a four or five minute songs and they think it is a very easy job. Every song has a story and loads of hard work in its making. A lot of people are involved in a song,” says Sameer, who has penned songs such as Ghoongat Ki Aar Mein, Pardesi Pardesi, Aisi Deewanagi and Mera Dil Bhi Kitna Pagal Hai.

The lyricist has turned radio jockey for the first time with Radio Nasha’s show Safarnama. The show airs on 107.2 FM in Delhi and 91.9 FM in Mumbai, 3-4 pm on Saturday and Sunday starting August 20.

Sameer, who is son of lyricist Anjaan, feels it is important for listeners to understand the hard work that the music industry puts in.

“It is very important for listeners to know the kind of efforts people put into making a song. I don’t know of a single song in my career which does not have a history of hard work or an interesting story behind it,” he says.

The artist hopes that some talented artist breaks his record.

“I am very happy with whatever respect I have got so far, but I hope that someone in future will break my record. At least now no one can say that we don’t have any such category in the record book,” says the singer.
