Every single shop and supermarket chain in the UK closing on Boxing Day - the full list

After one of the toughest years many of us have ever experienced, spending time with family at Christmas feels more important than ever.

But while people like the emergency services, NHS workers and journalists will all continue to work over the festive period, many retail workers are being given a well-deserved break.

Yesterday Asda announced that all of its supermarkets will close on Boxing Day this year - ensuring that staff are able to see their families on what would usually be one of the busiest days of the year.

In a statement, the chain's CEO, Rodger Burnley, said: "This is of course our busiest time of year.

"But it was important for us to give as many of you as possible the opportunity to spend this time with those loved ones that you may not have seen for many months so, uniquely for this year, we will not reopen our stores until 27 December."

Asda isn't the only retailer to close on Boxing Day this year.

Several high street giants have already revealed their plans to close.

Here are all of the shops that have vowed to remain shut on Boxing Day, according to the Mirror :

  • Waitrose
  • Asda
  • Aldi
  • Wickes
  • Home Bargains
  • Homebase
  • Pets at Home
  • The Entertainer
  • Marks and Spencer
  • John Lewis (except for the Trafford Centre store)
