After a couple of successful years as a professional VALORANT coach, Team Liquid’s Connor “Sliggy” Blomfield had decided to take a break from his stint in 2022. But he never returned, transitioning to a full-time content creator and co-streamer instead—despite having four coaching offers from VCT teams in hand.
In a recent interview, Sliggy revealed that he had plans to return to coaching pro VALORANT teams in 2023, but decided to continue observing and streaming esports games because it “went so well.” “Liquid offered me a content creator contract at the same time teams were offering me coaching contracts,” he said. “I weighed my options, and I was just like, I enjoyed the six months of just costreaming so much that I re-evaluated my three to five-year goals.”
Sliggy also spoke about receiving coaching offers from three out of four VCT regions—Americas, EMEA, and APAC—while he was still undecided about his path. “I had every region apart from China offer me a coaching role in 2023,” he revealed. “I was in talks with nine teams, and I received four offers.”
Sliggy’s popularity back at that time is understandable, given the dedication he’s known for putting into his responsibilities. All that had him working a minimum of 14 hours every day in the first year and half of his coaching career. “I would probably extend that to 18 with a six-hour sleep instantly, just for no life commitment,” he revealed when asked about his previous schedule as a coach versus now.
Sliggy also shared that VALORANT was everything to him as a coach, allowing him to immerse himself in work with little regard for a personal life. In fact, his original plan had been to block out three years and focus on the game and coaching nonstop. Luckily, people around him, including his girlfriend, were “insanely supportive.”
Even now, as a streamer—though far less demanding than his coaching days—Sliggy’s average workday runs about 12 hours. And why wouldn’t it? He spends his days observing and decoding games from all four regions. Keeping track of all 48 teams and the entire VCT schedule isn’t a joke, but his love for VALORANT makes it possible.
