The Super Bowl is upon us once again. America’s biggest single sporting day will feature the Kansas City Chiefs against the San Francisco 49ers as Patrick Mahomes and Jimmy Garoppolo join the quarterbacks to play on the biggest stage.
I: Packers 35, Chiefs 10

Bart Starr led the Packers to victory and was replaced late in the game by Zeke Bratkowski. Starr went 16-of-23 for 250 yards with a pair of TDs. Bratkowski’s only pass was an incompletion. On the Chiefs’ side, Len Dawson was 16-of-27 for 211 yards with a TD and a pick. Pete Beathard threw five passes with one completion for 17 yards.
II: Packers 33, Raiders 14

It was Starr and Bratkowski again for Green Bay with the MVP going 13-of-24 for 202 yards and a TD. The backup did not throw a pass in this one. The Raiders’ QB was Daryle Lamonica, who went 15-of-34 for 208 yards with a pair of TDs and a pick.
III: Jets 16, Colts 7

Joe Namath was the MVP throwing 28 times and completing 17 for 206 yards. Veteran Babe Parilli threw an incompletion. On the Colts’ side, two vets played. Earl Morrall was 6-of-17 for 71 yards with three picks, including the flea-flicker that was supposed to go to a wide-open Jimmy Orr. Johnny Unitas came on to save the game but was unable to do so. He was 11-of-24 for 110 yards with an interception.
IV: Chiefs 23, Vikings 7

Len Dawson was at the controls for KC as it muzzled Minnesota. Dawson was 12-of-17 for 142 yards with a TD and pick. On the downside, the Vikings saw Joe Kapp go 16-of-25 for 183 yards with an interception. Gary Cuozzo, who was also a dentist, was 1-of-3 for 16 yards and a pick.
V: Colts 16, Cowboys 13

The Colts had their duo at it again. Earl Morrall was 7-of-15 for 147 yards and a pick. Johnny Unitas threw for 88 yards on 3-of-9 passing with a TD and two interceptions. You can add in all-purpose player Sam Havrilak, who completed his one pass for 25 yards. Meanwhile, for the Cowboys, Craig Morton was 12-of-16 for 127 yards with one TD and three interceptions.
VI: Cowboys 24, Dolphins 3

A game that saw the starters play for the entire game. Roger Staubach led Dallas by going 12-of-19 for 119 yards and a pair of TDs. For Miami, Bob Griese 12-of-23 for 134 yards and an interception.
VII: Dolphins 14, Redskins 7

Bob Griese and Miami won the Super Bowl over Washington. He went 8-of-11 for 88 yards with a TD and a pick. On the Washington side, Billy Kilmer went 14-of-28 for 104 yards with three picks, a pair by MVP Jake Scott. There was another pass, of sorts, although Mike Bass was credited with a 49-yard fumble return for a TD as kicker Garo Yepremian did some ill-advised work with the football.
VIII: Dolphins 24, Vikings 7

Two big names met and Bob Griese came away with the “W” over Fran Tarkenton. Griese was 6-of-7 for 73 yards and a TD. The scrambling man was 18-of-28 for 182 yards and a pick.
IX: Steelers 16, Vikings 6

Another game, another loss for Fran Tarketon and Minnesota. Tarkenton was 11-of-26 for 102 yards with three interceptions. Terry Bradshaw, meanwhile, was 9-of-14 for 96 yards with a TD.
X: Steelers 21, Cowboys 17

Roger Staubach and Terry Bradshaw met as the Steelers downed the Cowboys. The Hall of Famers each threw a pair of TD passes. Staubach, though, had three passes picked while going 15-of-24 for 204 yards. Bradshaw was 9-of-19 for 209 yards.
XI: Raiders 32, Vikings 14

Fran Tarkenton’s bad luck continued in the Super Bowl. The Vikings’ star was 17-of-35 for 201 yards with a TD and pair of picks. Bob Lee came off the bench and was 7-of-9 for 81 yards with a TD pass to tight end Stu Voigt. On the Raiders’ side, Ken Stabler was 12-of-19 for 180 yards with a TD pass to Dave Casper. Mike Rae came on for the Silver and Black but did not throw a pass.
XII: Cowboys 27, Broncos 10

It was a meeting for former Dallas QBs as Craig Morton and Denver met Roger Staubach and the Cowboys. Morton had a poor game, going 4-of-15 for 39 yards with four picks before being replaced by Norris Weese, who was 4-of-10 for 22 yards. Staubach completed 17 of his 25 passes for 183 yards and a TD despite being sacked five times. Danny White was 1-of-2 for five yards. Running back Robert Newhouse got into the act, completing his lone pass for 29 yards.
XIII: Steelers 35, Cowboys 31

Another meeting between Pittsburgh and Dallas. Roger Staubach was 17-of-30 for 228 yards with three TDs and a pick. Terry Bradshaw was also 17-of-30 but for 318 yards with four TDs and a lone interception.
XIV: Steelers 31, Rams 19

Terry Bradshaw and Pittsburgh were back at it, winning for the second straight season. He was 14-of-21 for 309 yards with two TDs and three interceptions. Vince Ferragamo was 15-of-25 for 212 yards with an interception in the 12-point loss. Running back Lawrence McCutcheon had one pass and it was complete for 24 yards.
XV: Raiders 27, Eagles 10

Jim Plunkett had a great game, throwing three TD passes while going 13-of-21 for 261 yards. On the losing side, Ron Jaworski was 18-of-38 for 291 yards with a TD. Jaworski, though, threw three picks.
XVI: 49ers 26, Bengals 21

Ken Anderson was 25-of-34 for 300 yards and a pair of TDs and interceptions. Joe Montana was 14-of-22 for 157 yards with a TD pass to Earl Cooper.
XVII: Redskins 27, Dolphins 17

Joe Theismann was 15-of-23 for 143 yards with a pair of picks and TD passes. David Woodley started for Miami and was 4-of-14 for 97 yards with a TD pass to Jimmy Cefalo and an interception. He was relieved by Don Strock, who was 0-for-3.
XVIII: Raiders 38, Redskins 9

Joe Theismann and Jim Plunkett dueled in a battle between a pair of former Super Bowl winners. Plunkett was 16-of-25 for 172 yards and a TD as the Raiders got the better of Washington. Theismann threw a pair of picks and was 16-of-35 for 243 yards.
XIX: 49ers 38, Dolphins 16

Talk about a meeting of incredible quarterbacks. Miami’s Dan Marino made his lone Super Bowl appearance. Joe Montana made one of many and got the victory by going 24-of-35 for 331 yards and three TD passes, two going to running back Roger Craig. On the South Beach side, Miam’s Marino was 29-of-50 for 318 yards with a TD and two interceptions.
XX: Bears 46, Patriots 10

The Bears routed the Patriots behind Jim McMahon and a legendary defense. The colorful McMahon was 12-of-20 for 256 yards. On the New England side, Tony Eason started and was benched after going 0-for-6. Steve Grogan came on and was 17-of-30 for 177 yards with a TD pass and two interceptions.
XXI: Giants 39, Broncos 20

Phil Simms was an unconscious 22-of-25 for 268 yards with three touchdown passes. Jeff Rutledge also saw time but had no passing stats for Big Blue. John Elway was 22-of-37 for 304 yards with a TD pass and an interception.
XXII: Redskins 42, Broncos 10

Doug Williams had the game of games, throwing for 340 yards on 18-of-29 passing. All four TD passes came in the second quarter when Washington erupted for 35 unanswered points. John Elway had an off-day, going 14-of-38 for 257 yards with a TD and three interceptions. Denver running back Steve Sewell completed his lone pass for 23 yards.
XXIII: 49ers 20, Bengals 16

Boomer Esiason was only 11-of-25 for 144 yards with a pick. The Bengals almost pulled of the victory but Joe Montana found John Taylor with a 10-yard pass after directing a brilliant drive. On the game, Montana was 23-of-36 for 357 yards and two TDs.
XXIV: 49ers 55, Broncos 10

It was the Joe Cool show, again, as Montana and the 49ers crushed Denver. Montana was 22-of-29 for 297 yards and five TDs. Steve Young came on in relief and completed 2-of-3 for 20 yards. On the Orange Crushed side, John Elway was 10-of-26 for 108 yards with two interceptions. Gary Kubiak was 1-of-3 for 28 yards.
XXV: Giants 20, Bills 19

Jeff Hostetler had taken over for an injured Phil Simms and led the Giants to the Super Bowl. They weren’t give much chance against the powerful Bills. Hostetler was precise on the game, going 20-of-32 for 222 yards and a TD pass to Stephen Baker, the Touchdown Maker. Jim Kelly was 18-of-30 for 212 yards for the Bills.
XXVI: Redskins 37, Bills 24

Mark Rypien was 18-of-33 for 292 yards with a pair of TD passes and an interception as Washington won. Jim Kelly threw the ball 58 times, completing 28 for 275 yards with a pair of TD passes and a quartet of interceptions. Frank Reich completed his lone pass for 11 yards.
XXVII: Cowboys 52, Bills 17

The Bills’ run of bad luck in Super Bowls continued as Dallas crushed them. Bills backup quarterback Frank Reich, who replaced an injured Jim Kelly and went 18-of-31 for 194 yards with a TD pass and interception. Kelly was 4-of-7 for 82 yards with a pair of picks. Troy Aikman was 22-of-30 for 273 yards and four TD passes in the rout.
XXVIII: Cowboys 30, Bills 13

Jim Kelly was 31-of-50 for 260 yards with an interception as the Bills went down again. Troy Aikman had another solid game, going 19-of-27 for 207 yards with a pick.
XXIX: 49ers 49, Chargers 26

Steve Young had the game of games in the destruction of the Chargers. The BYU great threw six TD passes and was 24-of-36 for 325 yards. The Niners had three players throw passes. Bill Musgrave completed his lone throw and Elvis Grbac’s only pass was incomplete. The Chargers started Stan Humphries, who was 24-of-49 for 275 yards with a TD and two picks. Gale Gilbert came on and completed 3-of-6 passes for 30 yards.
XXX: Cowboys 27, Steelers 17

The Cowboys won another Super Bowl, this one for Barry Switzer. Troy Aikman, who played for Switzer at Oklahoma in college, was 15-of-23 for 209 yards and a TD. Neil O’Donnell was the Pittsburgh QB. He had a rough game. O’Donnell was 28-of-49 for 239 yards with a TD and three picks, two going to MVP Larry Brown.
XXXI: Packers 35, Patriots 21

Drew Bledsoe threw for more yardage than Brett Favre — 253-246 — but the Patriots’ QB also had four passes intercepted while the Green Bay star had none. Each quarterback had two TD passes in a game that saw Desmond Howard star.
XXXII: Broncos 31, Packers 24

John Elway was only 12-of-22 for 123 yards and a TD but Denver broke the Super Bowl ice. Brett Favre threw 42 passes, completing 25. He had 256 yards passing, three TDs and one interception.
XXXIII: Broncos 34, Falcons 19

John Elway had a bigger game than the season before as Denver won again. The former Stanford star was 18-of-29 for 336 yards and a TD and interception. He also scored a rushing TD. On the Falcons’ side, Chris Chandler was 19-of-35 for 219 yards with a TD pass and three interceptions.
XXXIV: Rams 23, Titans 16

Kurt Warner put on a show going 24-of-45 for 414 yards and a pair of TDs as the Rams survived by a yard. The Titans’ Steve McNair was 22-of-36 for 214 yards. He also had eight carries for 64 yards.
XXXV: Ravens 34, Giants 7

Trent Dilfer became a Super Bowl-winning quarterback as the Ravens stomped the Giants. Dilfer was an efficient 12-of-25 for 153 yards and a touchdown. Tony Banks played, too, for Baltimore, throwing an incompletion. On the Blue side, Kerry Collins had a bad game. The former Penn State star was 15-of-39 for 112 yards with four interceptions. He was also sacked four times.
XXXVI: Patriots 20, Rams 17

The Tom Brady era began quietly as the Patriots’ G.O.A.T. led the team to victory by throwing 27 times for 145 yards with 16 completions. Kurt Warner was 28-of-44 for 365 yards with a TD and two interceptions in the difficult loss.
XXXVII: Bucs 48, Raiders 21

Brad Johnson joined the fraternity of Super Bowl-winning QBs as he completed 18-of-34 passes for 215 yards and a TD as the Tampa Bay defense dismantled Oakland. Rich Gannon was 24-of-42 for 272 yards with a pair of TD passes. However, Gannon threw five interceptions.
XXXVIII: Patriots 32, Panthers 29

Another close call and another Patriots Super Bowl title. Tom Brady was 32-of-48 354 yards with a trio of TD passes and one pick. On the Panthers’ side, Jake Delhomme was 16-of-33 for 323 yards and three TDs in the close loss.
XXXIX: Patriots 24, Eagles 21

The Patriots specialized in getting rings with close calls. This was bit easier as the Eagles scored late to make it a three-point game. Donovan McNabb was 30-of-51 for 351 yards with three TD passes and three interceptions. This was the game that left Terrell Owens unhappy with his QB. Tom Brady, meanwhile, was 23-of-33 for 236 yards and two TDs.
XL: Steelers 21, Seahawks 10

Ben Roethlisberger was only 9-of-21 for 123 yards and two picks as Pittsburgh won. Roethlisberger also had 25 yards rushing and a TD onthe ground. Antwaan Randle-El completed a pass, too, good for 43 yards. For Seattle, Matt Hasselbeck was 26-of-49 for 273 yards with a TD and an interception.
XLI: Colts 29, Bears 17

Peyton Manning became a Super Bowl champion as the Colts downed the Bears in Miami. Manning was 25-of-38 for 247 yards with a TD and interception. The Bears’ Rex Grossman was 20-of-28 for 165 yards with a TD and two picks.
XLII: Giants 17, Patriots 14

The first of two Super Bowls for Eli Manning and the Giants over the Patriots. Manning made it back-to-back for the brothers by completing 19-of-34 passes for 255 yards with two TDs and a pick. Tom Brady was 29-of-48 for 266 yards with a TD in the loss that cost New England its perfect season.
XLIII: Steelers 27, Cardinals 23

Kurt Warner had another huge Super Bowl and he almost won his second ring. Warner was 31-of-43 for 377 yards with three TD passes and one pick. On the winning side, Ben Roethlisberger was 21-of-30 for 256 yards with a TD and a pick.
XLIV: Saints 31, Colts 17

An elite matchup featured Drew Brees and Peyton Manning with the Saints getting the better of the Colts. Brees was 32-of-39 for 288 yards and a pair of TDs. Manning, meanwhile, was 31-of-45 for 333 yards and a TD. Of course, he also threw the Pick-Six to Tracy Porter that provided the insurance cushion for New Orleans.
XLV: Packers 31, Steelers 25

Aaron Rodgers got his Super Bowl ring outdueling Ben Roethlisberger. Rodgers was 24-of-39 for 304 yards and a trio of TDs, two going to Greg Jennings. On the Steelers’ side, Roethlisberger was 25-of-40 for 263 with two and two.
XLVI: Giants 21, Patriots 17

Once again, Eli Manning and the Giants get the measure of Tom Brady and the Patriots. Brady was 27-of-41 for 276 yards and TD passes to Danny Woodhead and Aaron Hernandez. Manning was 30-of-40 for 296 and a TD pass to Victor Cruz.
XLVII: Ravens 34, 49ers 31

Joe Flacco and Colin Kaepernick met in the game remembered for the power failure at the Superdome after Beyonce’s halftime performance. Flacco was 22-of-33 for 287 and three TDs. On the short side, Kaepernick led a huge comeback and finished 16-of-28 for 302 yards with a TD pass and a pick. He also rushed seven times for 62 yards.
XLVIII: Seahawks 43, Broncos 8

One of the all-time routs in the game. It went wrong for Denver from the first snap, which sailed by Peyton Manning for a safety. The Denver QB was 34-of-49 for 280 yards with a TD and two picks. Russell Wilson was 18-of-25 for 206 yards and two TDs in the winning effort. Tarvaris Jackson was 0-for-1 in mop-up duty.
XLIX: Patriots 28, Seahawks 24

Russell Wilson wasn’t as fortunate in trying to get Seattle back-to-back titles. He threw a pick to Malcolm Butler in the final seconds as the Seahawks looked on the verge of victory. Wilson finished 12-of-21 for 247 yards with two TD passes and the fateful pick. Tom Brady, meanwhile, was 37-of-50 for 328 yards with four TD passes and two picks.
50: Broncos 24, Panthers 10

Peyton Manning made up for his poor performance against the Seahawks by leading Denver to victory over a Carolina team that came in with one loss. Manning was 13-of-23 for 141 yars. Cam Newton went 18-of-41 for 265 yards and a pick in a losing effort.
LI: Patriots 34, Falcons 28 (OT)

This is one Atlanta would love to forget. Matt Ryan led the Falcons to a 28-3 lead only to see the implosion. Ryan was 17-of-23 for 284 yards and two TDs. Tom Brady, meanwhile, had to throw and keep throwing to get the Pats out of the hole. He was 43-of-62 for 466 yards and two TDs and the Pick-Six thrown to Robert Alford as Atlanta took a 21-0 lead in the second quarter. Julian Edelman threw a pass on a trick play that went for an incompletion.
LII: Eagles 41, Patriots 33

Nick Foles threw and caught his way into Philadelphia sports history. The QB was 28-of-43 for 373 yards and three TDs with one interception. He also famously caught the “Philly Special” from Trey Burton. Tom Brady was forced to go airborne, again, and wound up 28-of-48 for 505 yards and a trio of TD passes. Danny Amendola threw an incomplete pass, too, for New England.
LIII: Patriots 13, Rams 3

Tom Brady was 21-of-35 for 262 yards and a pick as he led the Patriots to victory. Brady found Julian Edelman 10 times for 141 yards. Jared Goff and the Rams did not get it going. Goff was 19-of-38 for 229 yards and a pick in the loss.
