Every new Premier League kit ranked as Man Utd away shirt shines, Liverpool's collar confuses and Wolves have a complete shocker

The Premier League is nearly upon us.

And while transfers are all well and good, nothing matters more than an totally subjective kit ranking based on one person's opinion.

So, rather than disappoint, here is that very kit ranking.

Enjoy...

20. WOLVES

If this year was a football kit, it would be the Wolves away effort.

Fulham may not have released a kit, but I'm still ranking Wolves 20th rather than 19th because there is no way the Cottagers could possibly offend the eyes more than that monstrosity.

18. CRYSTAL PALACE

Just what was going on when this kit was designed?

The home kit is odd enough, with the blue dominating the sparse red stripes. But the away kit? Not for me.

17. NEWCASTLE UNITED

It's just black and white stripes, isn't it?

An improvement on last year's effort, but that's not hard. Sponsor really ruins it. Away kit a bit garish too.

16. WEST BROM

The Baggies go for a barcode version of their traditional stripes.

Yet it looks like someone lost their ruler when it came to measuring the width of the stripes.

15. LEEDS UNITED

It's been 16 years since Leeds were last in the top flight.

It's just a shame their kit is a bit dull on their return. The overbearing sponsor doesn't help.

14. CHELSEA

I really like the sleek home kit, but that massive 3 is just awful.

As for the away kit, it looks like the non-slip metal flooring you'd get in stock boxes or industrial slaughterhouses - which isn't always considered a good thing.

13. BURNLEY

It's tidy enough, with a retro theme leading the way with a collar.

But the overriding question is whether you want more shirt to go with your sponsor? Because the sponsor could not get any bigger.

12. WEST HAM

Another nice, simplistic design by the Hammers, harking back to their history - which does jar a bit when you see them in London Stadium and not Upton Park.

It's probably just a little too plain for it's own good though.

11. LEICESTER CITY

Not too much change for the Foxes.

It's another largely inoffensive effort by Adidas, although the touches on the sleeves are particularly nice and the colour for the away kit is a little out there.

10. ASTON VILLA

Middle of the pack.

It's clean, precise and sharp enough. Perhaps a little dull.

9. LIVERPOOL

For the first time in three decades, Liverpool will have a league title to defend.

So quite why Nike thought they'd want to spend their season as champions with some toothpaste-coloured collars is anyone's guess. Same goes for the away kit. Otherwise, it's pretty nice.

8. SOUTHAMPTON

Nice retro touch from Southampton, opting for a solitary diagonal stripe on the home kits.

Bigger fan of the red strip on white third shirt, but can't fault them for an eye-catching design. Away shirt is tidy enough.

7. BRIGHTON

When you always wear stripes, one instant way to change things up in a classy way is to introduce pin-stripes.

Sheffield Wednesday did a few years back and Brighton have done it now. Easy win, with the classy collar a nice touch.

6. MANCHESTER UNITED

United's home kit does run the risk of looking a little bit like a seat on a bus with those odd specs of yellow but it just about works.

As does the away kit, which works really well with the colourless badge.

5. MANCHESTER CITY

Puma have gone a little mad with Manchester City's kits - like a primary school kid being asked to trace over anything rough they can find with a crayon.

And yet, somehow, these sleek designs works.

4. ARSENAL

Adidas have really thrown plenty at bespoke kits for Arsenal in recent years.

Last year was a brilliant throwback to a yellow away kit of the Ian Wright days. Not quite as good this yea, but both kits still hold plenty of retro appeal.

3. EVERTON

Hummel just do football kits well - with each one having something vintage about them.

It's all here with the Everton kit - the classic chevrons and a cleancut 80s vibe. Just really classy.

2. TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR

This is just a really nice kit. The home kit has plenty going on without being loud or garish.

Meanwhile the away is simplistic and stylish in its colour and design.

1. SHEFFIELD UNITED

The Blades will be looking to avoid second season syndrome this season and their kits are a good start.

The home kit is a really clean and tidy effort and, while Adidas have done their fair share of pink away shirts in recent years (Manchester United, Leicester... Hereford FC), the Blades' away one might be the best of the lot.
