Every Man Utd transfer signing since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013

Manchester United's transfer business is a topic that is often highlighted as the reason behind the club's failure to win a Premier League title since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement.

Since the legendary Scottish manager left the club in May 2013 on the back of their 20th league title triumph, United well over £700million on new signings - and many have failed to impress.

Of course, that doesn't apply to every player. Spanish duo Juan Mata and Ander Herrera have both proved popular with the Old Trafford faithful during their respective spells at the club.

But on the whole, United's transfer strategy has been flawed at best, and downright chaotic at worst.

Argentinian playmaker Angel Di Maria, signed for a then club-record £59.7m under Louis van Gaal, scored just three goals before being shipped off to Paris Saint-Germain for a £15m loss only 12 months later.

Under Jose Mourinho, Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku were signed for a combined £165m, but the pair have failed to consistently performed in a United shirt and both have been linked with an exit this summer.

As a handful of more positive United fans may point out, some of best captures have been for smaller amounts.

After all, who could forget the impact of Swedish talisman Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the veteran striker who stormed the Premier League with 17 goals in his first season after arriving on a free transfer from PSG.

It appears United may have learned from their very expensive mistakes, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer recruiting Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, two British talents under the age of 21, this summer for respectable fees.
