'Every day I wake up smiling' - Unai Emery on the best parts of being Arsenal manager

The fine margins for error on Arsenal's run-in might give most managers sleepless nights but for Unai Emery every day managing the Gunners is a good day.

Emery was handed a major challenge when he was named Arsene Wenger's successor nearly 11 months ago, to guide Arsenal back into the Champions League after a two season absence and reestablish his new club as a title challenger in the years to come.

At the moment few could argue he is doing anything but just what was asked of him. Arsenal find themselves in fourth place with a game in hand on their rivals and they remain in contention for major silverware in the form of the Europa League, where they face Napoli in the quarter-finals next week.

Though Emery is perhaps not the most effusive and outgoing of managers it has become clear in recent months just how much he is relishing life at Arsenal, where he is popular with players, his fellow staff and the majority of supporters.

Asked what he is enjoying most about being Arsenal manager, Emery said: "I enjoy each match with our supporters, preparing for the matches like Sunday against Everton, the Premier League and working with the players.

"I wake up every day smiling and thinking that it's a good opportunity for me to continue working on my passion, which is football.

"I'm here with you, with everybody and after I win I'm happier than if I lose. I'm enjoying it."

It helps that he has Arsenal just where he wants them to be with just seven Premier League games left to go, starting with the visit to Everton on Sunday.

Emery said: "Now I think we are OK, but each match gives us information on how we can finish each match and Sunday is the same."
