Every council's Public Health Scotland Covid infection rate as 1,179 new cases confirmed

There have been a further 1,179 Covid cases confirmed in Scotland within the last 24 hours as the nation's death toll from the virus rose by nine.

Figures have been published by the Scottish Government and Public Health Scotland (PHS) this afternoon as part of the national Covid-19 daily briefing. PHS has stated it has undertaken work to improve reporting processes going forward.

Nationally, there are 474 patients being treated in hospital which is down two from yesterday. There are currently 63 people with the disease being treated in ICUs.

The number of newly-reported positive coronavirus cases recorded by NHS Ayrshire & Arran has increased by a net 33 to 23,862.

A total of 341,307 positive tests have now been recorded from 2.473 million tests carried out since the start of the pandemic.

According to Public Health Scotland's rolling seven-day infection rate per 100,000 population, North Lanarkshire has the highest infection rate in the country – at 233.9 as of Tuesday, July 27.

The second-highest is West Dunbartonshire which has a rate of 227.5 while Glasgow City (225.0) has the third-highest rate.

Locally, East Ayrshire's infection rate stands at 180.1 with North Ayrshire at 154.2. South Ayrshire's is 148.0.

Currently, 21 of Scotland's 32 council regions have an infection rate below the national average of 175.6.

Nine new deaths in the last 24 hours which means 7,911 people have passed away since March 2020.

However, data from the National Records of Scotland (NRS) shows 10,324 deaths had been registered up to Sunday, July 25 where the disease was mentioned on the death certificate.

Across the UK, the figure is 129,303 as of last night.

There are 21 patients being treated for the disease in Ayrshire hospitals, which is the same as yesterday, and there are five in ICUs.

Nationally, a total of 4,002,903 people have received the first dose of a Covid vaccine and 3,125,690 have received their second dose.
