Championship clubs are gearing up for the new season by releasing the strips their sides will be donning next season.
Some teams have yet to let us know what attire they will be taking to the pitch in for the 2019-20 campaign, but a majority of the second tier have already released theirs.
Derby County, Middlesbrough and Hull City were early with their kits, and we've dissected each strip along with those who have also released their looks.
Cardiff City, Fulham and Nottingham Forest have recently joined the party with smart-looking strips, with clubs prioritising their home shirts over their away or third kits as of yet.
So read on to see how we have rated every Championship kit that has been released so far this summer…

Home kit: Back in the Championship, Barnsley’s home kit being offered is one to forget. The texture and design looks like velvet brickwork, while the sponsor is also a bad look.

Away kit: This is certainly a different design, that’s for sure. Stepping away from their classic red and white home shirt, they’ve gone for something very different here. Can’t say I’m a huge fan, it’s just a bit ‘out there’ for me.

Birmingham City
Woven in history.
Who is getting next season’s home top⁉ #FabricOfTheCity #BCFC pic.twitter.com/6MwCuq9ILD
— Birmingham City FC (@BCFC) June 3, 2019
Home kit: Birmingham City’s home kit for 2019-20 is a very smart number, capped off by a darker blue tint on the sleeves and a white finish.
However, the let down is the sponsor - it would be fine if it wasn’t for the yellow slogan underneath.
Rating: 3/5

Away kit: Birmingham’s away kit is a decent number, combining charcoal with white shorts to give a fresh look to their alternative strip. Whilst the designs of both shirts are very similar, they both have a unique feel which makes them stand out from one another.

Our Pride, Our Shirt! pic.twitter.com/aqxjcTiT7K
— Blackburn Rovers (@Rovers) July 6, 2019
Home kit: Half white, half blue, Blackburn’s home kit is exactly what you’d expect - apart from what is arguably the worst sponsor in the world.
A huge, black number ten with the word bet in the middle. At least the players look happy.
Rating: 1/5
Our Shirt, Our Journey #Rovers ' 2019/20 @UmbroUK away strip is now available online ahead of the in-store launch tomorrow!
Order now: https://t.co/tLXjcFBi2G
— Blackburn Rovers (@Rovers) July 19, 2019
Away kit: If the home kit disappointed, the home kit makes up for it. The pattern on the left side of the shirt is superb, smartly finished off with a green trim on the sleeves and at the collar.

Brentford

— Brentford FC (@BrentfordFC) June 14, 2019
Home kit: Waving goodbye to Griffin Park, Brentford’s kit for the
2019/20 season is exactly what you’d expect from a red and white striped shirt
but the look is let down by the sponsor.
Rating: 2/5
#WeAreBrentford #WeAreUmbro pic.twitter.com/oXPXF7Ndvl
— Brentford FC (@BrentfordFC) July 16, 2019
Away kit: There’s not too much special about a black kit but the yellow trim is a welcome addition. The badge also stands out and, having ruined the home shirt, the sponsor actually works well - particularly as my take is that it advocates saving bees, which I’m all for.
Rating: 5/5
Bristol City
If you insist... pic.twitter.com/mvqUeWb9Gf
— Bristol City FC (@BristolCity) May 15, 2019
Home kit: Simple but effective, red with a white trim always works. With a sleek, modern new badge, the Robins’ home kit for the 2019/20 season is one of the best we have seen so far. Perhaps it could have been a bit more unique though.
Rating: 4/5
Of course he was coming back. #BristolCity have secured the permanent return Tomas Kalas for a club-record fee. #AnnounceKalas
— Bristol City FC (@BristolCity) July 1, 2019
Away kit: Bonus points for revealing a new kit alongside a new signing, Bristol City’s away number is not a bad looking shirt but it’s just like every other black kit that is ever released by any club. Lacks originality.
Rating: 3/5
Cardiff City
Home kit: No messing from Cardiff, who stick to the tried and tested approach with Adidas. Nice touch with the Bluebird on the back and the detailing in the shirt keeps it fresh.
Rating: 4/5

Away kit: Have Cardiff signed a sponsorship with Irn-Bru that I’m unaware of? It’s extremely orange, the blue finish does not work. One the plus side, it will only be used for a year.

Charlton Athletic
Pinstripes are back!
Following fan consultations, pinstripes return on the Addicks' home strip for the first time since the 80s.
https://t.co/P4trBrePvO #cafc pic.twitter.com/NriE86fiHB
— Charlton Athletic FC (@CAFCofficial) July 16, 2019
Home kit: Asking the fans what they want is a big win, returning with a kit like this is even better. Back in the Championship, Charlton return with a bang with their new shirt for the season.
Rating: 5/5
Away kit: Charlton have gone smart with a black number, polished off with blue and purple hoops.

THIRD KIT REVEAL

— Charlton Athletic FC (@CAFCofficial) July 12, 2019
Third kit: Charlton have let us down with this number and their ‘scuba’ kit should be at the bottom of the ocean. Preferably in the Mariana Trench, where the pressure will squash this audacity into oblivion.
Rating: 1/5
Derby County
Ready for 2019/20.
— Derby County (@dcfcofficial) June 7, 2019
Home kit: Now this is how you do it. Stick with what you know but make a slight tweak to make it stand out. The white and black stripes on the sleeves may not be everyone’s cup of tea but the end result is definitely recognisable.
Rating: 4/5
#FollowTheDerbyAway pic.twitter.com/NbxKoyEPbQ
— Derby County (@dcfcofficial) July 5, 2019
Away kit: Derby may just have the best kits in the Championship this season. The blue away number is tremendous, the graphics look good and the sponsor works. See, sometimes it can be easy.
Rating: 5/5
Fulham
#RaiseTheRoof pic.twitter.com/2Ltl9WDGfi
— Fulham Football Club (@FulhamFC) June 26, 2019
Home kit: A minimalist design but one that packs a punch. Nice and simple from the Cottagers, who stick to their roots with this fine number.
Rating: 4/5
Zoomed in. #RaiseTheRoof pic.twitter.com/Sqcp98MUjR
— Fulham Football Club (@FulhamFC) June 26, 2019
Away kit: Where to start? Understandably the red and black design is a nod to the detail on the badge, but this is a poor effort that looks like a cheap training shirt.

Huddersfield Town
#htafc's new home kit for the upcoming 2019/20 season has today been revealed!
Produced by main supplier @UmbroUK, the new home kit features a modern spin on the traditional blue and white striped home shirt thanks to new title sponsor @paddypower.
— Huddersfield Town (@htafc) July 17, 2019
Home kit: From a publicity point of view, it’s fair to say Huddersfield and Paddy Power nailed their campaign, although many knew it was a ruse from the get-go. Their kit is a beauty though, and looks even better after seeing it with that hideous sponsor.

Huddersfield Town 2019-20 Umbro Away Kit #HuddersfieldTown #SaveOurShirt #htafc #umbro https://t.co/zXVRqBeRY3
— FootballShirtCulture.com (@footballshirt) July 19, 2019
Away kit: Huddersfield’s away kit doesn’t quite live up to the home shirt, but it is still very nice. Can’t complain with a smart navy shirt, with some nice pattern around the sleeves to prevent it being dull.
Rating: 3/5
Hull City
90's
What do you make of our new home shirt, @HullCity fans? #hcafc | #TheTigers pic.twitter.com/IP3pKvDsxY
— Hull City (@HullCity) June 14, 2019
Home kit: A throwback to the 1990s, the shirt should actually be thrown back at the designer. The look for the Tigers is a step too far. What's wrong with stripes? Definitely the worst kit of the year.
Rating: 0/5

— Hull City (@HullCity) July 9, 2019
Away kit: A real Jekyll and Hyde from Hull. Home kit woeful, away very smart. It lacks originality and flair but given how the home kit went, I’m glad they played it safe with this one.
Rating: 3/5
Leeds United
| With the new kit also launching at our @merrioncentre store, Patrick and Jack took time out to chat with fans pic.twitter.com/9lhxxR9PuP
— Leeds United (@LUFC) July 9, 2019
Home kit: How do you celebrate 100 years of a famous club? By playing it safe. The 'platinum' trim on the shirts is a nod to the centenary, but there's little here to get too moved by, either way.
Rating: 3/5
Luton Town
CHAMPIONS | Pre-order your 19-20 shirts today https://t.co/reYb47bxCF #MakeYourMark pic.twitter.com/68KAZsVkjS
— Luton Town FC (@LutonTown) May 4, 2019
Home kit: Luton Town’s home kit, unsurprisingly, is orange but there is some bold choices. The effect on the orange looks good, as does the white sleeves, but the choice of a black chunk to finish rather than just a trim is disappointing.
Rating: 3/5
White kit: The best of Luton’s three kits for next season, the white shirt features a different approach with a sly chequered effect. Pictures don’t quite do it justice but it has grown on me since first glance.
Rating: 4/5
Navy kit: Unlike the white kit, the navy kit does the opposite and looks worse at every glance. It seems more like a training kit than one that would actually be used in games, while simultaneously also looking like one shirt on top of another.
Rating: 1/5
Middlesbrough
As revealed yesterday, here is #Boro's 2019/20 home and goalkeeper shirts, designed by @hummel1923
Available to pre-order from tomorrow! @32Red #UTB
— Middlesbrough FC (@Boro) May 26, 2019
Home kit: It’s a bit different, which is good, and also takes fans a trip down memory lane. It’s a smart way to shake things up with a kit that is usually all red with a white trim but I expect it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea.
Rating: 4/5
Here's something else for you, #Boro fans...
Introducing our 2019/20 away shirt, designed by @hummel1923 @32Red #UTB
— Middlesbrough FC (@Boro) June 14, 2019
Away kit: A sleek white with a smart red and black trim, Middlesbrough’s away shirt for 2019/20 is a thing of beauty. The sponsor also looks really good and the Hummel badge also fits. One to remember.

— Macron (@MacronSports) July 16, 2019
Away kit: Half blue, half black, Nottingham Forest’s approach to their new away kit is a brave move. Risks can mean rewards though and the result is a very decent, rather unique kit.

https://t.co/KWmNMsdRBk #pnefc pic.twitter.com/jn0OTArXNP
— Preston North End FC (@pnefc) May 22, 2019
Home kit: How do you change a white kit? Go with a slightly different approach. The navy sections and Nike badge look well, while credit should also go to a sponsor that doesn’t look out of place. It’s simple with a slight touch of inventiveness, which works for me.
Rating: 5/5

Home kit: Smart, but ultimately underwhelming from QPR - the polo detail is nice but doesn't belong on a football shirt.
Rating: 3/5
Away kit: It's all a bit of a mess, sadly.
Rating: 2/5
Stoke City
A new start ⚪
It's who I am. It's what I am.#SCFC pic.twitter.com/q3FwixUWmk
— Stoke City FC (@stokecity) May 1, 2019
Home kit: What can you do with red and white stripes? Not a lot really and Stoke City haven’t tried to be different with their kit for 2019/20.
The collar is smart, as is the overall look, but it isn’t one that will stand out in the coming years.
Rating: 4/5
Away kit: A black shirt with orange trim looks a bit off and the finish with what I call ‘pyjama grey’ on the sleeves also doesn’t fit. The only good bit is the badge. It could have been worse but it certainly could have been much, much better.
Rating: 2/5
Sheffield Wednesday
#levelup with @officialELEV8 #swfc pic.twitter.com/vRm1gj79qt
— Sheffield Wednesday (@swfc) July 16, 2019
Home kit: The Owls home kit is once again looking smart. After a popular return to the iconic blue and white stripes last year, the club have kept with the same theme. The faded pattern on the blue makes for a nice touch, adding some flare to a classic design.
Rating: 3/5
Away kit: This is a very bold kit from Wednesday, which captures the retro design theme they are going for. Again, like the home kit, there is a faded pattern on the bottom of the bold green shirt.

— Swansea City AFC (@SwansOfficial) July 3, 2019
Home kit: It’s tough for Swansea to veer too far away from their classic white shirt with black trim, but this looks smart. The black collar adds a nice touch and earns them some extra marks.
Rating: 3/5
Away kit: Big fan of this. It’s certainly out there, with black and turquoise stripes but the shades are just right. The white logo, sponsorships and badge also blend nicely, making this a great design.

— Wigan Athletic (@LaticsOfficial) July 5, 2019
Home kit: I’m really not sure what to make of blue and green. It’s a very weird combination but, at the same time, it kind of works. I can’t quite put my finger on why though.
Rating: 3/5
Away kit: Red and black should work but, for some reason, this doesn’t. Perhaps it’s the weird graphic, although it may also be that the white sponsor takes centre stage and stands out too much.
Rating: 2/5
