Everton youngster seals loan transfer after signing new contract

Everton youngster Lewis Gibson has joined League One outfit Bristol Rovers on a season-long loan after agreeing a new contract.

The 22-year-old has signed a one-year deal with the Blues, a club he has been at since 2017, which will expire upon his return from his loan spell next summer.

The defender has been a stalwart for the Blues' youth sides in recent years as he helped the U23s win the Premier League 2 title and Premier League Cup in 2019.

The switch to Rovers, who are managed by Liverpudlian Joey Barton, will be Gibson's fourth loan spell away from Goodison Park in recent years after he spent the second half of the 2019/20 season on loan at Barton's former club, Fleetwood Town, before signing for Reading and Sheffield Wednesday in the following two campaigns.

However, his spell in Yorkshire last season was disrupted by injury with the defender making just six appearances for the Owls.
