Everton Women striker signs new contract following transfer disruption

Everton Women forward Hayley Raso has signed a new contract until 2021 without ever playing a game for the club.

Raso, 25, joined Everton from Brisbane Roar in January but was unable to make a first-team appearance due to injury and the curtailment of the Women’s Super League’s following the outbreak of coronavirus.

The Australian made her international debut at 17 and has remained a regular for her country, playing every game at the 2019 World Cup. She has also played club football for the Portland Thorns in the United States of America.

Raso had previously admitted Everton icon - and fellow Aussie - Tim Cahill influenced her move to Merseyside, where she will now remain until next summer.

“He’s a legend of the game, an amazing person and an amazing character," Raso said.

“Everybody over there just loves him and he’s an amazing person to have at the club and such a role model.

“We got in touch via the phone and were just chatting and was just asking him about the club and he was telling me his thoughts. He thought it would be a great place for me.

“He didn’t take much to sell the club to me, just telling me about the environment, about the team, about the facilities, about the staff, about the players and it was easy for me to know that’s where I would fit in to.”
