Everton women reach first FA Cup final in six years as resurgence continues

Everton Women reached their first FA Cup final since 2014 on Wednesday by overcoming Birmingham City 3-0 in the semi-final.

Goals from Simone Magill, Nicoline Sorensen and substitute Valerie Gauvin fired Willie Kirk and his team to Wembley.

Everton will face the winner of Thursday’s tie between Manchester City and Arsenal on November 1.

Birmingham are bottom of the Women’s Super League [WSL] while Everton have won both of their opening domestic fixtures this term.

Kirk has inspired an upturn in fortunes at Everton since his arrival in December 2018 when he found the club bottom of the WSL.

A summer overhaul - led by Sarvar Ismailov, nephew of Alisher Usmanov - led to the arrival of seven new signings including prolific French striker Gauvin.

The 24-year-old scored the winner in the semi-final win over Chelsea at Goodison Park on Sunday and came from the bench once more to add another goal to her tally at Birmingham.

Everton Women continue their WSL campaign at Aston Villa on Saturday.
