Everton Women confirm departure of manager Willie Kirk

Everton Women have confirmed that Willie Kirk has left his position as manager.

Kirk has been in charge of the club since 2018, but has now left his post after nearly three years in the job.

The 43-year-old left his assistant manager position at Manchester United Women to join Everton when they were bottom of the Women's Super League [WSL] but led the club to safety before recording a sixth-place finish in his first full campaign.

Kirk signed a new contract with Everton last December, but has released a statement confirming his departure.

In his statement, Kirk thanks the club for giving him the chance to manage Everton, and has wished them well for the future.

“I am thankful to the Club for the opportunity that they gave me three years ago,” said Kirk, in a statement on evertonfc.com.

“During that time, we have made tremendous progress both on and off the pitch and I leave the Club in a better place. Without a doubt, the highlight was the FA Cup final less than a year ago, a memory that will stay with me forever.

“Unfortunately, this season has not started the way we anticipated, due to a very tough opening fixture list and the re-building of a squad with eight new players.

“I have no doubt the talented squad that I leave behind can go on to have a very bright future.

“I wish the Club, the staff and the players my very best wishes.”
