Everton Women agree deal for Italy striker in first summer transfer

Everton Women have completed the signing of Italy striker Martina Piemonte from AC Milan.

The 25-year-old is the Blues’ first summer signing and arrives on Merseyside following two successful years with the Italian giants. Piemonte recorded her best goalscoring season to date last term, netting 14 times and registering four assists in just 24 appearances.

The forward has penned a two-year contract at Walton Hall Park and will bring a new dimension to Brian Sorensen’s Everton attack. Piemonte has 13 caps for her country and plenty of senior experience, having also played for Sevilla, Roma, Real Betis and Fiorentina.

“I am so happy to be here,” she told evertontv. “What I want to achieve is put Everton in a position to win, working together with the manager and everyone else at the club.

“I think Everton in investing in women’s football. They did well this year and will want to do even better in the future. I will also have the opportunity to play in one of the best leagues in the world.”

And Piemonte, who will become just the second Italian player to feature in Women’s Super League after Blues midfielder Aurora Galli, has revealed a desire to play under manager Sorensen was one of the biggest factors behind her move.

“He believes a lot in me, and I will do my very best to return his trust,” she said. “He has a great project, and I will do my very best to score as many goals as possible and win together as a team.

“I’m also very excited to find a nice environment that welcomes me, and I can’t wait to get to know the Everton fans because they will be my family.”

Reflecting on his first signing of the summer, Sorensen said: “Martina has every attribute you need to be an Everton player.

“Her physicality, composure on the ball and an eye for goal makes her an excellent addition to our squad. She is rich in experience playing in Italy but also experiencing a career abroad in Spain.

“It’s clear she is ready for the next step in her career, and I’m delighted she is doing that at Everton. I look forward to working with her ready for the new season.”
