Everton 'willing to pay more' to sign £14m striker on loan at another club

Everton are being linked with a move for Villarreal forward Boulaye Dia.

The transfer window is more than two months away from opening, and yet the Blues are being credited with an interest in potential signings. Frank Lampard helped bring in nine new signings for this season, with a mixture of permanent and loan deals.

Now, Everton are being credited with an interest in a permanent deal for a player who is currently on loan at another club.

According to Italian news outlet Tutto Salernitana , the Blues are considering a move for Dia in the January transfer window. The 25-year-old is currently on loan at Serie A club Salernitana from Villarreal until the end of the season.

The report states that the Italian club have the option to sign Dia for €12million (£10.5m) at the end of the season, but Everton could scupper that potential deal.

It has been claimed that Everton are willing to pay more than Salernitana for Dia’s services, with a €16m (£14m) fee mentioned. The report then states that it remains unclear how Villarreal would be able to allow Dia to move to Goodison Park in January, unless the player specifically requests the transfer.

Dia has made eight appearances for Salernitana since moving to Italy on loan, scoring four goals so far. He was part of the Villarreal team which reached the Champions league semi-final last season, where he scored in the 3-2 second leg defeat to Liverpool.
