Everton want to sign Porto winger Luis Diaz as part of a deal that would see James Rodriguez return to the Portuguese club.
The Blues have identified the 24-year-old Colombian wide-man as a player they want before Tuesday night's deadline but the deal is believed to hinge on Rodriguez returning to his former club.
Rodriguez's agent Jorge Mendes was said to be in Porto on Thursday.
Diaz has previously been valued at around £30m but it is thought that with Rodriguez as a makeweight, the fee could be closer to £20m.
Rafa Benitez has made it clear that any incomings before next week's deadline would hinge on players leaving and with Rodriguez being used as part of this deal - and the growing prospect that Moise Kean will leave the club with Juventus interested - Everton believe they can now do a deal with Porto for Diaz.
