Everton vs Wolves result: Richarlison leads Toffees to battling victory at Goodison Park
Richarlison scored twice and Alex Iwobi netted his first league goal to hand Everton a thrilling 3-2 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers in an electrifying Premier League encounter at Goodison Park on Sunday.
Wolves gifted the home side the opening goal in the fifth minute, a defensive mix-up between defender Conor Coady and goalkeeper Rui Patricio presenting the ball to Richarlison, who thumped a bouncing shot into the net.
Everton were equally generous four minutes later as Adama Traore sent a low ball into the box and defender Seamus Coleman stopped it in front of the goal, teeing it up for Romain Saiss to poke home the equaliser.
Iwobi put his side ahead again three minutes later, rising to send Gylfi Sigursson's header flying past Patricio.
Having successfully qualified for the group stages of the Europa League on Thursday by completing a 5-3 aggregate win over Torino, Wolves looked to be running out of steam in the second half until Raul Jimenez stooped to head home a flick-on from a long throw to put them level again.
Richarlison secured all three points for the home side in the 80th minute, out-jumping Willy Boly to give his side the lead for the third time.
Boly was sent off in stoppage time after receiving a second yellow card as Everton hung on to win.
But it's the hosts who create the first chance of the game. Iwobi is given time to cross from the left and picks out Sigurdsson, who glances his header just over the bar.
A disaster at the back for Wolves! Coady tries to pass back to Rui Patricio, but the goalkeeper misreads it. His attempted clearance hits Kean and drops to Richarlison, who sweeps the ball in with his left foot to open his account for the season. It's an excellent finish, but a poor goal to concede from the visitors' perspective.
Wolves respond instantly! What a start we've had to this game. Coady launches a long ball down the right and Traore races onto it, beating Digne for pace and power. He surges into the box, pulls the ball across goal where Saiss is waiting to prod home from close range.
Some half-hearted appeals for a penalty as Iwobi goes down in the box. There's been plenty of attacking intent from both sides in the opening ten minutes.
Everton are back in front! Richarlison finds Sigurdsson in behind the Wolves defence, and the Icelandic midfielder plays an inch perfect cross into the path of Iwobi. The former Arsenal man makes no mistake, guiding his header past Rui Patricio.
There's no sign of this game slowing down! Wolves very nearly make it 2-2 as a cross falls to Cutrone at the back post. The striker, making his debut, drills a low shot at goal but Pickford makes an excellent save to deny him.
Another chance! This time it's for Everton. A ball into the box isn't dealt with and drops to Coleman, who shifts onto his left foot and shoots from close range. His effort is blocked behind for a corner, which Wolves clear. The visitors look unusually dishevelled at the back, though.
Wolves go route one and Cutrone collects on the edge of Everton's box. His first touch is immaculate, but the second, a powerful shot, sends the ball well wide.
There's a welcome chance for a breather in this relentless game. Richarlison is down after hurting himself in a challenge. The Everton physio races on.
A Wolves free kick is sent into the Everton box and makes it's way through to Cutrone, who curls a cross back into the middle. Saiss meets it from close range, but his header is straight at Pickford.
Jimenez cuts in from the left and hits a low shot, which Pickford saves comfortably. Wolves, despite their defensive troubles so far today, are a real threat when they come forward.
Sigurdsson sends in another inviting cross, which Kean very nearly connects with. Coady does enough to direct it behind for a corner, from which Mina heads straight at Rui Patricio.
