Everton vs Man City
Premier League 2018-19
Venue: Goodison Park
Date: Wednesday, February 6, 2019
Kick-off: 7:45pm GMT, tonight
Manchester City's title defence continues tonight as they face a trip to Merseyside to face Everton at Goodison Park.
Following a shock defeat at Newcastle, Pep Guardiola's champions were back to winning ways as Sergio Aguero hit a hat-trick in Sunday's 3-1 home win over Arsenal.
Liverpool's 1-1 draws against Leicester City and West Ham leave Man City just three points behind the leaders, and a win at Everton would send City top on goal difference - albeit with Liverpool still having a game in hand.
Everton Man City team news and predicted line-ups
Sergio Aguero may potentially be rested in midweek with another tough game - Chelsea at home - on Sunday. Leroy Sane will likely play after being rested vs Arsenal, with the likes of John Stones and Danilo also set to feature.
Man City are still without captain Vincent Kompany. The Belgium defender has been out for the last month with a muscular problem and there is no timescale on his return.
Goalkeeper Claudio Bravo (Achilles) is a long-term casualty and left-back Benjamin Mendy is being eased back after knee surgery but City otherwise have a fully-fit squad.
Man City XI: Ederson, Walker, Stones, Laporte, Danilo, De Bruyne, Fernandinho, Silva, Sterling, Jesus, Sane
Provisional squad: Ederson, Muric, Danilo, Walker, Stones, Otamendi, Laporte, Delph, Mendy, Zinchenko, Gundogan, Fernandinho, De Bruyne, D Silva, B Silva, Sterling, Sane, Mahrez, Foden, Aguero, Jesus.
Everton midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye returns from a groin injury after missing the last two matches.
The Senegal international, who saw a deadline-day bid from Paris St Germain rejected, is likely to go straight back into the side, which will miss defenders Phil Jagielka (knock) and Yerry Mina (foot).
Leighton Baines (rib) is likely to miss out but first-choice left-back Lucas Digne returns from suspension.
Everton XI: Pickford, Coleman, Keane, Zouma, Digne, Bernard, Gomes, Sigurdsson, Gueye, Richarlison, Tosun
Provisional squad: Pickford, Coleman, Keane, Zouma, Digne, Gana Gueye, Gomes, Davies, Walcott, Sigurdsson, Richarlison, Stekelenburg, Kenny, McCarthy, Schneiderlin, Bernard, Calvert-Lewin, Tosun, Lookman.
Score prediction: Everton 1-3 Man City
Everton's goal difference of 0 - 36 goals scored and also conceded - says as much about their season as any feature ever could.
The Toffees could well get a result against Man City given their attacking talent, but a soft defence has let them down time and again this term - the weekend's 3-1 home defeat by Wolves a case in point.
If City show the same intensity as they did against Arsenal, they should earn three points. The problem for Guardiola is getting his side to keep their focus, and that could be a way for Silva's team to exploit the champions.
