Everton vs Liverpool coronavirus latest as club awaits Premier League contact

9.50pm update: The Premier League have just released a statement on the coronavirus situation as weekend games set to go ahead.

Everton are tonight continuing to prepare for Monday derby as planned but await an update from the Premier League as the outbreak of coronavirus escalates.

Prime minister Boris Johnson today revealed the government are "considering" a ban on sporting events .

But he said the "scientific advice" suggests stopping them would have little impact on the spread of COVID-19.

The Blues are due to hear from the Premier League in the coming hours to see if they are to follow the other top leagues in Europe, which have either suspended the competition or forced games to be played behind closed doors.

But, for now, Everton are continuing to plan for the 236th Merseyside derby being played - and in front of a full house at Goodison.

Advice has already been issued to supporters and the club are likely to provide further updates closer to Monday's game, which kicks-off at 8pm.

Everton say they are taking all necessary precautions in the build-up to the game with advice and information set to be displayed on screens around the ground.

The Blues have received media accreditation requests from around the world and all those attending have been asked to fill in a form, detailing recent travel and asking about potential symptoms, as a precaution.

The under-18s game with Liverpool on Saturday, being held at the Reds' Kirkby Academy, will be played behind closed doors.

But there are currently no plans for Sunday's mini-derby, between the club's u-23s sides, at Southport's Pure Stadium (1pm) to follow suit.
