Everton v Man City LIVE: Haaland’s two-word response as visitors collapse to hand Arsenal title race advantage

Manchester City conceded three goals in an extraordinary second-half collapse at Everton that hands Arsenal the advantage in the Premier League title race despite a late fightback that rescued a point.

Pep Guardiola’s side recovered to snatch a 3-3 draw at the Hill Dickinson Stadium but the damage was done when Everton substitute Thierno Barry scored a quickfire double either side of a Jake O’Brien header on a thrilling night.

Erling Haaland pulled one goal back before Jeremy Doku equalised in the 97th minute, but it still leaves Arsenal five points clear having played a game more than City and means Mikel Arteta’s side will be champions with three more wins.

Guardiola accepted City’s fate is no longer “in our hands” but Haaland was heard telling his team-mates the title is “still there” before facing Brentford on Saturday and Arsenal visiting relegation-threatened West Ham on Sunday.

The seven games which exposed the crucial difference between Man City and Arsenal

Marc Guehi looked glum as he headed for the Manchester City bus outside Hill Dickinson Stadium. Understandably, too. His ability to pick the right pass had helped him settle smoothly into the City defence.

Until he picked the wrong pass, supplied Thierno Barry with a goal and a 3-3 draw altered the title race.

It may be of scant consolation to Guehi now but, if Arsenal hold on to their advantage at the Premier League summit, his uncharacteristic error will be far from the only reason.

In the last couple of years, there has been the temptation to deem this team the City of old: the relentless, remorseless winning machine. They are not, though. City have finished a league season with 14 straight wins before. They needed to be perfect in this run-in, to win their last eight: but this is an imperfect side.

Phil Foden set to sign new long-term Man City contract

Phil Foden is set to sign a new contract at Manchester City to keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2030 after coming to a provisional agreement with the Carabao Cup winners.

The England international’s current deal is set to expire next summer but he will commit to a four-year deal, with an option of a further year after that.

Pep Guardiola vows Man City will not let up in title fight despite Everton draw

09:00 , Jamie Braidwood

Pep Guardiola promised his Manchester City side will keep fighting in the Premier League title race against Arsenal after dropping two critical points in a dramatic 3-3 draw at Everton.

“We need to win our games,” Guardiola said. “Now it is not in our hands. If they win their games the title will be for Arsenal. Now have to win our next game, we have to recover well for a series of games, and this is what we have to do.

“It’s better the point than no point, but it (would be) better to win the game that we needed. I know it was in our hands and in Arsenal’s hands as well, it depended on goal (difference). Now it’s not, but we have a responsibility. We play Brentford on Saturday and we continue and we will see what happens.

“Better effort cannot be possible. The message is the same as the day before. We have four games left and a final – win the games. That is the message. We play for that, even with difficulties for many reasons.”

When could Arsenal win the Premier League? Remaining title race fixtures compared to Man City

08:30 , Jamie Braidwood

Arsenal’s hopes of winning a first Premier League title in 22 years is now in their hands after Manchester City dropped points in an extraordinary collapse at Everton on Monday night.

Mikel Arteta’s side are five points clear of City, who have a game in hand, and it means the Gunners will lift the Premier League if they win their final three games against West Ham, Burnley and Crystal Palace.

Pep Guardiola insisted City will not give up the fight and they will play before Arsenal’s next game, which is away to Premier League strugglers West Ham who will be fighting for their lives on Sunday evening.

But the balance of the title race has firmly swung in Arsenal’s direction, even after Jeremy Doku’s late equaliser at the Hill Dickinson Stadium rescued a point for City when the damage looked to have been done.

The 12 minutes of mayhem where Man City threw the title race away

06:30 , Richard Jolly

Manchester City refused to accept defeat and yet, in the final reckoning, it may be the game that means they are beaten. It was the 97th minute when Jeremy Doku curled in his second spectacular goal of an extraordinary evening. City still have not lost in the Premier League since January, but it might have been the night the title slipped from their grasp.

“It was in our hands and now it is not,” said Pep Guardiola. The winners were not Everton, though they were seconds away from their biggest scalp at Hill Dickinson, but an old Evertonian. If Mikel Arteta makes Arsenal champions, his debt to David Moyes and Everton will be still greater. It is definitively advantage Arsenal in the title race after a stunning spell and a City collapse.

Even their subsequent comeback, with two late goals, only reduced the damage done in the second half on Merseyside. “It is better than no points,” added Guardiola.

The 12 minutes of mayhem where Man City threw the title race away

90+7' GOAL! Extraordinary! Doku salvages point right at the death [EVE 3-3 MCI]

05:30 , Richard Jolly

Guardiola sent for Phil Foden and Omar Marmoush. Donnarumma came up for a couple of corners. But their rescuer was the man whose goals bookended the game. Doku’s first goal was curled in with his left foot, his second with his right, his first from just inside the box, his second from just outside.

83' GOAL! Another twist! Haaland pulls one back for visitors [EVE 3-2 MCI]

03:30 , Richard Jolly

And yet Everton’s third goal spurred a response from City. It was immediate. From kick-off, Kovacic split the Everton defence with a pass and Haaland chipped Jordan Pickford for a goal that takes him closer to the Golden Boot.

81' GOAL! Barry adds second from another Man City error [EVE 3-1 MCI]

01:30 , Richard Jolly

City appeared rattled. It was inevitable that some of Everton’s threat would stem from set-pieces but it felt too easy when they led. Jake O’Brien got in behind Erling Haaland to head in James Garner’s corner.

Then it was time for Barry again. The summer signing had gone six games without a goal. Two came in a flurry, the second aided by another of Moyes’ decisions. He brought Rohl in on the right of midfield, and the German’s forceful running was a feature of Everton’s best moments in the first half. Another surge led to a goal in the second, Rohl shrugging off Mateo Kovacic too easily and misfiring, for Barry to have a tap-in.

69' GOAL! Barry punishes Guehi error to equalise [EVE 1-1 MCI]

Monday 4 May 2026 23:31 , Richard Jolly

Two goals in four minutes and three in 12 means City need favours from West Ham, Burnley or Crystal Palace, Arsenal’s last three opponents. Their destiny is out of their hands now. When this seemed it would be a comfortable, professional win, it turned into an anarchic draw. And if City showed their spirit in a frantic finale, it was nevertheless them, rather than Arsenal, who lost their nerve in the run-in.

The turning point was an awful error from a player who had been almost impeccable in his City career. Everton’s equaliser could be attributed to a Moyes change, bringing on Thierno Barry for Beto, but it owed more to a horribly under-hit back-pass by Marc Guehi. The substitute advanced to beat Gianluigi Donnarumma. The striker had been flagged offside when Merlin Rohl tried to find him; but Guehi’s deliberate, if misjudged, intervention meant the goal stood. It was a gift.

David Moyes on Everton's fightback and late Man City equaliser

Monday 4 May 2026 23:01 , Jamie Braidwood

Everton have conceded a goal after the 90th minute for the third Premier League game in a row, after conceding winners against Liverpool and West Ham and now an equaliser against Manchester City.

David Moyes’s side could have been in the race for Champions League without those dropped points. Mixed feeling for the Everton manager, speaking to Sky Sports:

“We let ourselves down because we defended the second goal so poorly. That was probably the main reason for it.

"But at half-time we would have taken this result because we were hugely outplayed in the first half.

"Getting a point against City is not a bad result, but when you're 3-1 up you think you're in with a great chance of winning."

Pep Guardiola gives his verdict on Jeremy Doku's late eqauliser

Monday 4 May 2026 22:37 , Jamie Braidwood

Jeremy Doku’s late goal means Manchester City took at least a point from their collapse against Everton, even if it’s a huge blow to their title chances.

Guardiola told Sky Sports: "It's better than a loss. We played to win. It just shows what the team are. We tried and we have done it. It's not in our hands. Before it was in our hands. Now, no.

"We have to do it in our four games that we have in the Premier League. It will be quite similar against Brentford. We will see what happens."

Pep Guardiola: 'We're going to continue'

Monday 4 May 2026 22:32 , Jamie Braidwood

Pep Guardiola, speaking to Sky Sports, praises Manchester City’s performance but says his side lost control of the second half. He says they will take the point and “continue”. He’s not giving up just yet.

"Really good performance. We played an outstanding first half. It was so difficult with their physicality.

"Second half, they made a step up. We didn't have as much control and we gave away the goal. After that they come back and make a proper English game, so aggressive in the duels.

"We take the point and until it's over, we're going to continue.”

Arsenal's first Premier League title in 20 years is three games away

Monday 4 May 2026 22:12 , Jamie Braidwood

As the dust settles, the simple fact is this: Arsenal are three wins from glory. Sunday’s trip to West Ham could be their toughest of the remaining fixtures, followed by relegated Burnley and a Crystal Palace side who may have a European final to prepare for.

How will the Arsenal team have followed that as they prepare for a Champions League semi-final against Atletico Madrid tomorrow?

THAT’S A STUNNING GOAL FROM JEREMY DOKU! SENSATIONAL!

In a first half low on quality, Doku has been the bright spark for City. This time, he produces end quality, too. A wonderful, curling finish into the top corner that leaves Jordan Pickford with no chance. Relief for City. They breakthrough a stubborn Everton defence at last.

Off we go! Manchester City start the game six points behind Arsenal, and with goals to make up after their 3-0 win over Fulham. But first, they need a win. Everton have other ideas and they need a result to keep their European hopes alive.

Pep Guardiola plays down Man City’s frustrations over fixture pile-up

Monday 4 May 2026 19:40 , Jamie Braidwood

Pep Guardiola played down Manchester City’s frustrations over fixture rescheduling during their domestic treble push.

“It is what it is,” Guardiola said, following reports that City were frustrated to be given three games in seven days during the run-in. “When we won the treble and quadruple we always had this kind of calendar.

“Of course it could be better but I’ve never expected (help). We’ll do that and go game by game. The broadcasters, Premier League, whoever, decides. We will be there with 11 players plus people on the bench.”

Everton's recent record vs Man City: Look away Arsenal fans

Monday 4 May 2026 19:20 , Jamie Braidwood

Everton have lost their last eight home league matches against Manchester City, the longest run of defeats against an opponent in their history.

While Manchester City are unbeaten in their last 17 Premier League games against Everton, since a 4-0 loss at Goodison in Pep Guardiola’s first season in charge.

Nico Gonzalez is rewarded for his FA Cup semi-final winner against Southampton with a start in the continued absence of Rodri as the experiment of Nico O'Reilly in midfield, which did not work against Burnley, is ditched. Both sides are without their best holding midfielder, with Everton's Idrissa Gueye injured. When City last played in the Premier League, they were top. Now they are six points behind Arsenal and really need a win on their first trip to Hill Dickinson Stadium.

David Moyes seeks first-ever win over Pep Guardiola

Monday 4 May 2026 19:10 , Jamie Braidwood

Mikel Arteta will be hoping for a favour from his former boss David Moyes tonight. But the Arsenal manager may be concerned to discover that Moyes has never beaten Pep Guardiola in 15 previous attempts in the Premier League.

Of those 15 games, Moyes has two draws and 13 defeats against Guardiola, stemming from his previous spells at Sunderland and West Ham as well as Everton. Man City beat Everton 2-0 earlier this season.

Man City feel Premier League ignoring rules amid fixture pile-up frustration

Monday 4 May 2026 18:37 , Richard Jolly

Last week, Manchester City were frustrated to find they will have to play three games in six days in the title run-in after two rearranged games were announced either side of the FA Cup final.

City believe the Premier League’s principle for rescheduling matches has not been followed as it was announced they will host Crystal Palace on 13 May and travel to Bournemouth on 19 May.

In between, Pep Guardiola’s team, who are battling with Arsenal to become champions, visit Wembley on 16 May for the FA Cup final against Chelsea, giving them two trips to the south.

City feel their match against Palace, which was due to be played on the weekend when Guardiola’s side instead beat Arsenal in the Carabao Cup final, had not been rearranged sooner.

David Moyes praises fit-again Beto ahead of facing Man City

Monday 4 May 2026 18:20 , Jamie Braidwood

Everton boss David Moyes has praised the attitude of Beto after confirming the Portugal striker is available to face Manchester City after a concussion.

Beto had been involved in every one of Everton’s matches this season before missing last weekend’s loss at West Ham having sustained swelling below his eye in the Merseyside derby.

That interrupted a strong run of form from Beto, who has scored seven goals since the turn of the year, four in his last three appearances.

“Even today, he’s always asking and trying to find out where and if we thought he could do better,” Moyes said. “Other staff members work with him individually as well, because that’s what he actually wants, he wants extra work and he wants to try and get better.

“It’s great when you work with people who are always trying to improve and trying to step up. He’s started to score a few goals and we hope he can continue that.”

Pep Guardiola: I still have ‘incredible energy’ for Man City job in treble bid

Monday 4 May 2026 18:03 , Jamie Braidwood

Pep Guardiola still has “incredible energy” for his job at Manchester City and feels calmer despite the pressures of a treble challenge.

There has been speculation throughout the season Guardiola could leave City this summer after a decade in charge but he continues to speak warmly about the club.

“I wouldn’t be 10 years, even with good titles, if I didn’t have this incredible environment,” the City manager said.

“I still have incredible energy, still I’m so good, coming here to work on my days off.

“Of course we’re here because we won a lot – and that’s why they don’t fire you, because they continue to trust you – but apart from that, the club is really, really extraordinary.”

Manchester City are on a roll in title race - but goal difference becomes a factor

Monday 4 May 2026 17:45 , Jamie Braidwood

Manchester City have hit *that* run of form towards the end of the season and have won six matches in a row in all competitions. But their last three wins, against Arsenal, Burnley and Southampton, have all come by one goal. If Arsenal and Manchester City win their remaining games, the title will come down to goal difference.

With that in mind, City need to respond to Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Fulham. Arsenal’s goal difference of +41 is now four better than Manchester City’s +37, but that would come down if Pep Guardiola’s side win their two games in hand.

Everton's push for European football hits a roadblock

Monday 4 May 2026 17:30 , Jamie Braidwood

Everton are winless in their last three in the Premier League to lose momentum in the race for European football. The Toffees suffered late heartbreak when they lost to rivals Liverpool at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, conceding to Virgil van Dijk’s header, and then lost late against West Ham last time out when Callum Wilson struck at the death.

The results mean Everton have dropped to 11th in the table, but they are still only five points off a European place. A win tonight would see them go level on points with Brighton and above Chelsea into 9th.

Is Everton vs Man City on TV? Channel, kick-off time and how to watch Premier League clash

Monday 4 May 2026 17:15 , Jamie Braidwood

The pressure is on Manchester City to remain in touch with Arsenal in the Premier League title race as they face a potentially tricky trip to Everton.

Mikel Areta’s side took care of business against Fulham to open their advantage to six points at the top of the table and boosted their goal difference, with their title rivals now looking to reply in kind.

It’ll be a busy end to the league campaign for Pep Guardiola and his squad with five league games still to play as well as the FA Cup final, but a slip-up here could well prove costly.

Everton still have plenty to play for, too, in a congested chase for European places. They sit 11th after the weekend’s results.

The Ballon d’Or winner has not featured since the win against Arsenal, missing subsequent games against Burnley and Southampton in the FA Cup.
