Everton U23s keep double hopes alive with Premier League Cup win over Blackburn

Everton kept their hopes of a potential double alive with a 2-1 victory over Blackburn Rovers in the quarter final of the Premier League Cup at Goodison Park.

An early penalty, coolly taken by Bassala Sambou, gave the Blues the lead before Josh Bowler tucked away a brilliant 20-yard strike later in the first period to seal the victory.

Blackburn were able to pull a goal back through Harry Chapman in the second half, and did threaten to potentially equalise throughout the closing stages of the game, but were unable to bag the equaliser.

The unseen influence of Seamus Coleman at Everton - and how it affects Blues transfer plans

That sets up David Unsworth's side for a semi final tie against Swansea City for a place in the final to face Newcastle - who were victorious in their semi final against Leeds on Tuesday night.

The Blues U23s are, therefore, still on for a potential double after confirming their place as Premier League 2 champions earlier this month.

Everton have their final league match of the season away to West Ham on April 29 before travelling to Swansea for the Premier League Cup semi final at the start of May.
