Everton transfers - Ainsley Maitland-Niles meeting, Luiz Diaz and James Rodriguez negotiations

This summer's transfer window closes this evening at 11pm, meaning that for Rafa Benitez, and other Premier League managers, there is only a few hours left to fine-tune their squads until January, at least.

The Blues have been linked with a whole host of players this window, but what are the rumour columns saying with just hours to go?

According to the Mirror Ainsley Maitland-Niles met with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and technical director Edu on Monday afternoon following the midfielder's passionate public plea to let him leave the club.

The Arsenal man posted a public plea on his Instagram account yesterday which read "All I wanna do is go where I’m wanted and where I’m gonna play @arsenal."

That post came after Everton wanted to sign the player on a season-long with an option to make the deal permanent next summer, however, the Gunners rejected the deal.

And now the Mirror have reported that the 24-year old met with Arteta and Edu in response to the post, however, it remains to be seen whether he will be granted his wish of leaving the Gunners.

The Liverpool Echo's Everton reporter Phil Kirkbride understands that wantaway midfielder James Rodriguez was being lined up by Porto as a makeweight for the transfer of winger Luis Diaz.

However, the Columbian midfielder was unable to agree a deal with his former club Porto and now other clubs, such as AC Milan, have been linked with a move for Rodriguez in the final hours of the transfer window.

Portuguese journalist Bruno Andrade has suggested that thee Toffees' first offer for the 24-year old Columbian winger was deemed too low by Porto, although he has not ruled out the Toffees making a follow-up Everton in order to secure the winger's signature.

The journalist also claims that Chelsea and Tottenham have been monitoring Diaz, highlighting just how sizeable of a coup it would be for Benitez's side if they were able to get a deal done.
