Everton transfer deadline day plans with striker decision made ahead of Moise Kean loan

Everton head into transfer deadline day not actively looking for a striker to replace Moise Kean.

Kean completed on a season-long loan switch to Paris Saint Germain last night but after discussions yesterday the club, at this stage, feel they have enough cover in that area of the squad.

Earlier in the window, Carlo Ancelotti had discussed the possibility of signing Napoli striker Fernando Llorente with the Blues' power-brokers but after assessing their squad options, the ECHO understands Everton are not currently preparing any moves to sign cover for Kean, while he plays for the Champions League finalists this season.

Ancelotti has refused to rule out the club doing business today but the Blues came into 24 hours of the window confident of not needing to search for someone to fill the gap left by Kean's departure.

Should top scorer Dominic Calvert-Lewin be injured or suspended then Richarlison can play as the central forward in Ancelotti's preferred 4-3-3 formation.

Cenk Tosun remains part of the squad and given he is close to making a return to fitness after a serious knee injury, and not expected to leave the club today, Ancelotti knows he can call upon the Turkey international if required.

Theo Walcott is available for sale or loan today but if he stays at Goodison after the window shuts at 11pm, then the Blues boss will consider the 31-year-old a further option to play in the forward line should injury hit any of the first-choice players.

The progress of Ellis Simms, who trains regularly with the senior squad, also leaves Everton content that they would be able to cope with the season-long absence of Kean, without the need to sign a replacement.

And so Everton, at this point, are not pushing to add a centre-forward to the squad although Ancelotti has said the last day of the window often brings "surprises".

The Blues' focus, however, looks like being trying to move out a number of unwanted players with Sandro Ramirez, Yannick Bolasie and Mo Besic among those who are available.

Heading into the weekend, Everton had yet to receive any firm offers for some of those fringe players but had fielded interest and enquiries from intermediaries representing several clubs.

Ancelotti says he wants to work with a squad of no more than 25 players this season and so Everton need to reduce their numbers today or before the deadline to do business with EFL clubs on October 16.
