Everton's transfer to-do list as clock ticks on key late deals

The transfer window has certainly been an interesting one for Everton so far.

The Blues have been busy across the summer making important additions to the squad which are already proving vital to the brilliant form of the team.

Carlo Ancelotti's side have won their opening six fixtures in all competitions and, at the time of writing, sit second in the Premier League on goal difference behind Leicester City.

But, there is still work to be done with just days remaining in the transfer window.

The window closes on Monday, barring the additional domestic window which allows clubs to trade with EFL teams.

So, how have Everton done so far? And what still needs to be done before the transfer window shuts?

Business so far

It's been a very, very good transfer window so far for the Blues, that much must be said.

The area that many fans wanted a solution to was the midfield, especially following the string of disappointing performances towards the end of last term.

That was exactly what Everton worked to find a solution to shortly before the season got underway - and the new arrivals have certainly hit the ground running.

Both Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure have helped transform the centre of the pitch from a weakness to one of Ancelotti's biggest strengths.

The addition of James Rodriguez to that, playing from the right flank in the first few games but with the ability to play centrally too, is another factor altogether.

The star power that he brings off the pitch is incredible, and the quality that he has already shown in his three matches has been crucial to Everton's three Premier League wins so far.

When talking about the club's business this summer though, the first signing of the transfer window can't be forgotten.

Niels Nkounkou was relatively unknown for many Everton fans when he joined the club from Marseille, but he has certainly grabbed the chances which have fallen his way so far.

Arguably the Blues' best player in both League Cup campaign so far, the club look to have found another fantastic left back to be back-up for Lucas Digne.

What needs to be done

While Everton have had a strong transfer window up until this point, there is still work to be done.

In terms of incomings, the Blues are expected to complete a deal for Norwich central defender Ben Godfrey, solving a long-term issue.

A failure to bring a centre-back in last summer, with the long pursuit of Kurt Zouma proving fruitless, did come back to haunt the Blues towards the end of last term.

Fikayo Tomori and Jean-Clair Todibo were both on Everton's list of targets, but Godfrey is a player Ancelotti admires.

Elsewhere, one of the main priorities for the rest of the transfer window will be to secure a number of outgoings.

The Blues currently are dealing with a fairly bloated squad, with a number of players on the books who are unlikely to have any playing time at all this season if they were to stay put.

Yannick Bolasie, Muhamed Besic and Sandro Ramirez all spent time on loan last term and are yet to find moves away from the club this summer.

Matthew Pennington, meanwhile, is likely to be on the hunt for a permanent switch after a series of temporary spells away from Goodison Park.

A number of stars who have been involved with the first team recently could also be on their way out of the club either permanently or on loan.

The club are believed to be open to offers for Theo Walcott while it is not yet clear if Cenk Tosun will be fit enough to secure a move away this summer as he recovers from a knee operation.
